This is a beautiful, small, outdoor chapel with an amazing mountain view. It is free and parking is easy. Limited hours that are open to the public, so check website before you drive all the way out. Great to combine this with the free overlook at Ceasar's Head State Park.

The other "half" of the two frescos by Ben Long. The other being in Glendale Springs not too far away. Very peaceful and open 24 hours a day. Please take the time to understand the difference between frescos and paintings. These are NOT paintings which makes them more difficult to produce.

We took a late Fall Trip, traveling towards Boone, NC & the Blue Ridge Parkway hoping to see the gorgeous leaf colors we'd heard so much about. Soon, we learned from the locals that a storm had stripped the trees of most of their leaves but not the Oaks. They stood proud & regal, cloaked in all their glory - russet, orangey, yellow, & reddish hues, dotting the landscape. Then, the road beckoned & off we went to West Jefferson's Cheese Factory then onward to Holy Trinity Church in Glendale Springs to see Ben Long's Fresco of "The Last Supper." What a delight! We sat for a while, just reveling in the awe-inspiring beauty of our Lord & His Disciples captured, a moment reflected in a life size work of art. Reflection .... yes, we found the TRUE COLORS. Amen

Trinity United Methodist church was established in 1798. The current church building was erected in 1889 by ship builders Henry and J.N. Daniel with help from church member, S.W. Lehew. The sanctuary features two of the area’s best stained-glass windows, Carolina pine diagonally paneled walls, and a beaded ceiling. The clapboard exterior includes shingle-style detailing and a gabled bell tower. Al
Trinity United Methodist Church is a must see for visitors to Southport, NC. Its sanctuary is a remarkable illustration of old time architecture and construction. If inclined attend a service on Sunday, you will find the congregation welcoming and anxious to extoll the benefits of living in a small seaside town.

I've never been to such a welcoming parish. And even if you're not in the market for a religious experience don't miss the historic cemetery or the outdoor chapel and labyrinth.
