Mile High Swinging Bridge

Reviewed By beckyr708 - Eureka Springs, United States

We were on a bike trip taking in the Blue Ridge Parkway when we explored Grandfather Mountain and the Swinging Bridge. Road was great to the top. Not too crowded despite the bridge having been closed for a short time because of a thunderstorm passing by. Definitely worth the climb, picturesque with the fog and sun clearing. Only draw back was price to get in. Motorcycle was the same price as a car full of people.

Its truly an incredible view from here. The whole blue ridge parkway is pretty much scenic view, here you can stop at the Linn Cove Viaduct visitor center and from there you can take a good hike - just follow the trail.

The volunteers have done a wonderful job decorating this old bridge over the Broad River into a garden of flowers and shrubs. The collection of plants is extensive and they are clearly marked with their name. The bridge is suitable for people of all ages and even those with mobility issues. You can walk it in a few minutes if time is limited.

Old Iron Bridge

If you're looking for a quiet & beautiful setting off the beaten path, this is it. My wife & I took the time to drive the 4-5 miles off Highway 107 (a good portion of which is a gravel drive) and are so glad we did. The Chattagoo River flows beneath the bridge and there are smaller type falls on either side. We were able to take steps down to the water on one side of the bridge. We also saw what appeared to be a walking path but did not explore it due to mud from rains the previous night.

Pisgah Covered Bridge

It was great seeing a part of history. Very romantic ???? there is a wonderful little trail, that’s only about an 1/8th of a mile- with a whimsical, curvy bridge you walk over the creek, then it brings you back to the bridge. The creek is a lot of very large rocks to climb and also a little island- so magical. I was disappointed to see that people have vandalized the inside of the bridge with graffiti- there are steps leading into the water, and picnic tables. Right outside of Asheboro. Very nice.

Melvin R Daniels Bridge

Reviewed By DfHRB - Hilton Head, United States

What a great fishing spot the Roanoke Sound the Melvin R. Daniels “small bridge” is for young and old anglers. There is a large quiet parking lot next to the western side of the bridge. There are clean restrooms also on the lot. You can fish from the pier dock or walk onto either south or north side of the bridge to fish. The sidewalk and railing have plenty of room. Be sure to bring your sunscreen there is not any shade on the bridge or dock but the park has a huge covered picnic table area where everyone can cool off. Access is easy of the highway. The views from the bridge are great and parents can feel safe with kids as there is a huge 5’ concrete barrier between the sidewalk and busy bridge deck. Happy fishing.

Bunker Hill Covered Bridge

Reviewed By heart0texas - Lubbock, United States

GPS sent us astray but we got there following some signs. The very old covered bridge is neat to look at but many immature and unsupervised people found it necessary to write and paint inside the bridge. Practically every surface is covered. So annoying. The grounds are very nice with a little bubbling creek. Nice area with tables for a picnic and a good spot to wade in and cool off.
