June 3, 2021 Velvet Champine

Conquering New York in one visit is impossible. Instead, hit the must-sees – the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum of Art – and then explore off the beaten path with visits to The Cloisters or one of the city’s libraries. Indulge in the bohemian shops of the West Village or the fine dining of the Upper West Side. The bustling marketplace inside of Grand Central Station gives you a literal taste of the best the city has to offer.

The Public Theater

It has been many years since I attended a performance at the Public Theatre and this was the first time for my wife. We were most fortunate to see one of the last performances of “Mother of the Maid” with the fantastic Glenn Close and an excellent supporting cast of actors. Our seats in the center of row G on the right side of the theatre had excellent sight lines and were very comfortable. Although I try not to pay full price for theatre, on this occasion I had to but it was well worth the $95, although a fee of $7 per ticket was, I consider, somewhat high but living in South Carolina, I had no choice.

Joe's Pub

Service everywhere was great. There are only great seats here with such a small and intimate venue. We didn’t eat but had drinks to satisfy the minimum and we’re fine with the selection and (high but expectedly so) prices. The performances by Kittel and Co. and Gretchen Parlato Flor we’re both excellent. This is the place to see great art!

And by that title, I mean, the Blue Man Group guys did not need to utter a single word to entertain. A zany, comical musical theatre show for all ages - it's crazy to think that the BMG can crack up an entire audience with mostly just gestures, facial expressions, and talent. Words weren't really used or needed, which made it that much better of an experience. Such a treat!

Enjoyed last night's improv show with the Daily Show writers. They asked the audience for strange/unusual things that had recently happened to them and then the show was built around those things. They went pretty crazy with a story about Krispy Kreme donuts:-) Show was just under 1 hour - wish it had been longer!
