Things to do in New Orleans, Louisiana (LA): The Best Nightlife

March 29, 2022 Toi Mattera

Laissez les bons temps rouler! In New Orleans the good times are perpetually rolling down Bourbon Street, which, thanks to the city’s annual Mardi Gras celebration, has quite a party animal reputation. Once you’ve soaked up the scenery of the historic French Quarter, tour the elegant Garden District and meet the colorful characters of Frenchmen Street. Experience the city's supernatural vibe at the Voodoo Museum or by taking a guided ghost or vampire tour through taverns, alleyways, and cemeteries.

Confederacy of Cruisers Bike Tours

Ride with us through the New Orleans neighborhoods we live in with the cities original and oldest bike tour company. It’s been over 11 years of great tours and great customers, making us feel like the luckiest folks every day at work. Tours that we have developed over the years include the Creole tour (our culture and history ride), the culinary bike ride that eats its way through 4 local restaurants, the history of drinking tour (which is exactly what it sounds like) and our Ninth Ward Tour that shares the story of the rebuilding and why it was so important to us. The rides are relaxed, with plenty of time to ask questions, and a stop along the way at a neighborhood bar on our Creole tour where you can find out all you want about local life while drinking a delicious Bloody Mary, if you like (water or nothing are also fine choices). All tours have one speed, slow. Call or email us, we don't use computer booking...old fashioned is how we roll on wheels and in the shop.

A restaurant, bar and jazz club all under one roof.

Although we came too early for the music, we were treated to an unbelievably good seafood meal. The bartender at our hotel (Julie, the Jung Hotel) recommended this to us and we were not disappointed. Because we came on the early side we did not have a wait, and the service was brisk and efficient. The BBQ shrimp dish was so good! It came with a very generous serving of large shrimp, which was more than I could eat (these are the peel and eat variety). I ended up taking a doggy bag back to the room with us for a snack the next day. I would not recommend this, however, as despite refrigeration, the shrimp smell permeated the fridge and hotel room all day ( I felt bad for the maids!) The venue of this restaurant on Frenchmen Street is ideal for those looking for music and food. The interior is a bit small and seating is tight, but it has a lovely atmosphere and the food was exceptional.

Frenchman Street and The Spotted Cat in particular, have become a favorite destination for us when we're in New Orleans. The drinks are reasonably priced and they don't push you to order while you're enjoying the entertainment. The bands are always fantastic and not to be missed!

Blue Nile

Reviewed By Dimanchewb88 - Fort Worth, United States

Visited last week while visiting the city on a solo trip. Strolled by on a Thursday night and found out it was Reggae Night. It was a $5 cover, but it was the best $5 I spent the whole time in New Orleans. I live in DFW where folks barely dance but that was not the case here. At Blue Nile, everybody was getting it in on the dance floor. Music selection was awesome and I even found a good looking fella to whine on ???? Drinks weren't too expensive and the place definitely got packed. Will definitely be back my next visit to NOLA.

Popular club in New Orleans attracts an eclectic crowd.

Loved the side-by-side rooms, allowing one room to serve purely as the bar and the other to serve as a performance venue, and the double bar. The atmosphere was relaxed and fun--saw all kinds of people of all ages there enjoying their evenings--and the music was incredible. I highly recommend catching a show by the Soul Rebels in this venue!
