Things to do in Michigan, United States: The Best Arenas & Stadiums

December 17, 2021 Darleen Reid

Think you need an ocean for a beach? Think again. There are miles and miles of sandy lakefront beaches in Michigan (thanks to the four Great Lakes that border it). The west coast of Michigan has especially nice beaches—try a rental in Muskegon, Grand Haven or Saugatuck. You won’t need a car when visiting Mackinac Island. In fact, they’re not allowed—this lovely Victorian resort town is pedestrian-only.

Every time I am at Dow Diamond for a Great Lakes Loons game, it is always an awesome experience. They have a great atmosphere and keep even those who don’t like baseball games entertained. Whenever in the area, make sure to grab some tickets, some ballpark food, and get ready to jam out to their awesome music and make sure to catch a game that ends in fireworks!

Comerica Park

Home of the Detroit Tigers, this is no ordinary ballpark. Combination theme park, ballpark, and baseball museum, it features huge statues of tigers, a Ferris wheel, carousel (with tigers, of course) and a fountain that celebrates each home run with colored lights and music.

What's not to love about baseball! Comerica is a beautiful park situated amids all the sports venues. EXCELLENT use of the Tiger mascot inside & outside the stadium.

Our most recent visit to Ford Field was for Monster Jam. Took our 3 kids for the first time. Skipped out on dealing with parking and rode the QLine down from up near the DIA. Easy in with efficient security checkpoint. Seating is well defined, so getting to our spots was simple. Had good seats at the front of the upper level and everyone had a blast.

Fifth Third Ballpark

Enjoyed all the lights( over a million they say?) and went with wife , 2 son in laws, 2 five year olds and my son in law’s mom. Had the Expedition filled and for $25 a great value. Not only the kids but the adults thoroughly enjoyed it too. Almost 2 miles , took about a half hour. Great Covid extended family outing 12/9/20. Very busy for a Wednesday night. My first time there, wife said much bigger than her first visit almost 10 years ago. Must take ALOT of work putting it together and taking it down. ( and a lot of electricity!)
