I've been going to Puerto Peñasco/Rocky Point since the early 1990s, and I usually enjoy some quadding and/or boating (I have a 23' Yamaha jet boat that's perfect for the shallow waters in this area). Anyway, several years ago a friend told me to ride down to the end of Las Conchas to see the estuary there. Didn't sound very exciting at first, but this place is really heaven. There isn't a lot in the area (which is part of the attraction) but there are usually a few people fishing, and a few people riding Razors/quads/Jeeps, etc. It's just a beautiful place to hang out and relax for a few hours. BUT NOTE -- during a full or new moon, the tide in this area can exceed 20+ feet, and the tide only takes 6 hours to rise/fall that far. So, if you take a boat into the estuary, be VERY careful....if the tide is falling, you do NOT want to get stuck....because you'll be stuck for 6 hours until the water comes back (I know because this happened to me). Also, be aware there are NO channel markers, even though there is a fairly consistent channel of deep water. Take a look on Google Earth before trying to navigate into the estuary -- the channel is pretty obvious, but very hard to see once you're there.

Yesterday I joined my new Scottish friends visiting their sister and aunt, Kay, also from Scotland, who had booked this horse riding tour at Stephanie Decker’s Ranch!! I was so happy because I have wanted to do this since I heard about it 3 years ago! I want to say thank you to Stephanie and Carlos, her Trail Boss Ali, and all of her beautiful, sweet horses, for the perfect 2 hours riding the trails above Lake Chapala!! We are all novices, to say the least, but we were given constant guidance and gentle, direct and timely instruction by her skilled Team of 3. Her Rancho is absolutely beautiful, peaceful, and the gorgeous horses were running, romping and playing in their pastures while we enjoyed meeting her pet pig and giving him his favorite ham slaps! It is a wonderful trip for anyone to take, tourists or residents!!

The goat farm, Galo de Allende, is a site not to be missed on a visit to the Lake Chapala area. Juan Diego and Laura had a dream to raise goats and make cheese in the European style and are in the midst of fulfilling that dream. On a multiple acre farm just above the small village of Mezcala, they have cleared the land, grown the herd from a pair of goats to more than 50, and established their own dairy processing center of the highest standards, delivering cheese, yoghurt, and other products to local stores and markets. As they have moved toward their goal, they have provided employment for the indigenous population of Mezcala while maintaining the highest standards of hygiene, taste, and quality. A tour includes transportation from a nearby town, breakfast of fresh fruit, their own yogurt, and Mexican style coffee. During breakfast Juan Diego describes the history and goals of the farm. Then comes up front and personal contact feeding and sometimes helping to milk the goats. After the tour, visitors are treated to a light lunch of bread, various examples of the cheese, and wine. The location, with its panoramic view of Lake Chapala, plum orchard, and the bleating of the goats, creates a a peaceful oasis that visitors hesitate to leave.
