Things to do in Maui, Hawaii (HI): The Best Day Trips from

April 29, 2022 Osvaldo Hartline

The Hawaiian island of Maui is a destination for true nature lovers. The ethereal bamboo forest and churning waterfalls in Haleakala National Park can be explored via the Waimoku Falls Trail. Stretch out on warm, golden sands or hit the surf for an unforgettable windsurfing or snorkeling session. Driving the scenic road to Hana along the island’s northeastern shore will be among the most spectacular journeys of your life. Time stands still at the Hawaiian village of Keanae, definitely worth a visit.

Demian really came through for us in a pinch. We didn't realize Spring Break was occurring, but he was able to get us set up with Zach and we had a blast. As a head's up for anyone wondering about visiting Hawaii during Covid, do your research. The landscape is changing all the time. At the time of our trip, the state is still not at full capacity. Also, if anyone is wondering how to interisland travel. There is a 72 hour window. In order to visit Maui, we got tested Thursday at Walgreen's in our home state, had results in 2 hours, and registered for 2 trips on Hawaii's Safe Travels site. We flew into Honolulu on Friday, flew into Maui on Saturday for a day trip, then returned to Honolulu for the rest of our vacation. The Safe Travels line moved faster in Honolulu than coming into Maui. Zach was able to pick up at the airport in the morning, cater a day tour to what we were interested in seeing, and got us back to the airport with enough time to make it back with no issues. I encourage you to take the time to give these guys a try. I reached out to another company, and they gave me bad info about Safe Travels, and I'm glad I didn't listen to them.

There are a few options to choose from to explore the Road to Hana so you can experience the rainforest and its waterfalls, streams, fresh water ponds, bamboo forests and lush foliage, but there is only one company where the owners are actually a Native Hawaiian husband and wife team that were born in the Hawaiian islands. There's also only one company that offers service in luxury Cadillac Escalades & Platinum Custom Minibuses. Great tour! The hosts were incredibly knowledgeable and made it feel not only welcoming, but vey authentic. It was a great way to learn about the history and culture of Maui and get deeper than just the beauty of the island. It was a smart decision to take this tour versus driving it because there were soooooo many curves that it would have been nerve wrecking to drive ourselves; however we were in very good hands during the tour! The rainforest is beautiful and although it is a long day, a breakfast of banana bread, fresh pineapple and a hot drink was provided for breakfast, a decent lunch was included and they gave us a little gift bag upon arrival. We even made a stop at Doug’s (one of the guides) childhood home which just made it seem even more authentic. Overall if you’re looking to do the Hana road tour, I’d highly recommend Hawaiian Style Tours! They treat you like family!

We did the Road to Hana with Tom and it was such an amazing day. Tom was a fantastic guide, a great and super interesting guy to spend the day with, so knowledgeable about everything we asked him, and was he was totally focused on customizing our day to be exactly what we wanted. He went above and beyond and my husband and I were so impressed and so happy we did this! We knew at the end of the day that if my husband and I had tried to drive it ourselves, we could never have been so relaxed and happy all day, and my husband would not have been able to enjoy the spectacular scenery. If you go to Maui, you MUST do the road to Hana with Hoaloha Jeep Adventures, and definitely ask for Tom. It really will be one of the best vacation decisions you’ve ever made.

Alec was super accommodating from the start. He picked my daughter and me up from the hotel, gauged our adventure level, and we were off. We did the half day tour and it was jam packed! Bamboo forrest, water falls, lunch...it was all fantastic. Along the way Alec was caring - did we need anything, be careful with your footing, want more pictures, etc. Really glad we chose Jungle Tours Maui for this experience. I didn't want a large group to be tromping around with us so a private tour was perfect. Highly recommended!
