Things to do in Madrid, Community of Madrid: The Best Performances

June 8, 2021 Myesha Cogley

So many of Madrid’s buildings look like castles, you’ll think you’ve stumbled into a fairytale. Even City Hall is astounding, with its white pinnacles and neo-Gothic features. A self-guided architecture tour can begin by the great bear statue in the central Puerta del Sol. Wander by the fanciful Royal Palace before absorbing the natural beauty of Retiro Park, then visit one of the city’s many museums. You could happily cap off each day by nibbling on forkfuls of paella while sipping Spanish rioja.

Essential Flamenco

From 6 artist on stage: Two dancers with a singer, a guitarrist, percussion and a violin or flute. Since its beginnings, Flamenco has evolved in hidden places. It is danced and sung in private, in the presence of a select group of friends, without any amplification. Often, a brick cellar would be chosen, due to its wonderful acoustics. This is the authentic, unvarnished performance that we seek to recreate: a man and a woman dancing, a singer, a guitarist, a violin and percussion, sounds and shadows on ancient brick-lined cellar walls, all in a show lasting one hour. Welcome to Essential Flamenco.

Such an amazing experience. The intimacy of the place lead us to feel the passion by the musicians and the dancers. A must see for your trip to Madrid.

Torres Bermejas

Torres Bermejas, opened in 1960, is the most important and unique flamenco show in the world. Torres Bermejas is unique for its stunning room that reproduces inside the Bermejas towers of the Alhambra in Granada, with walls with Arabic motifs, tiles and wooden covered ceilings. When you come to the flamenco show, it is an unforgettable artistic experience.

I come here every year. This summer I visited Torres Bermejas twice. Location is great and it is surprising how excellent flamenco show can be in a touristic city center. This is a very traditional tablao and dancers are so energetic. Many flamenco shows have been disappointing but not Torres Bermejas, this is always my nr 1. in Madrid.
