Things to do in Madrid, Community of Madrid: The Best Architectural Buildings

August 1, 2021 Venice Greaves

So many of Madrid’s buildings look like castles, you’ll think you’ve stumbled into a fairytale. Even City Hall is astounding, with its white pinnacles and neo-Gothic features. A self-guided architecture tour can begin by the great bear statue in the central Puerta del Sol. Wander by the fanciful Royal Palace before absorbing the natural beauty of Retiro Park, then visit one of the city’s many museums. You could happily cap off each day by nibbling on forkfuls of paella while sipping Spanish rioja.

Beautiful steel and glass structure next to a small pond. It is in the middle of the beautiful Retiro Park. It is an awesome photo op area. We visited in fall and the colors of the trees adjacent to the glass was just awesome.

Palacio de Cibeles

This beautiful building is very impressive from the outside and the main reception area has wonderful views of the domed ceiling. The Observation deck on the 8th floor is well worth the €3 (or €1.50 if you are a senior), with terrific views across the city and along Calle de Alcalá and Puerto de Alcalá
