The Machame Route is also called "Whiskey" route. It is the second most popular and one of the most scenic routes on the mountain. All climbers sleep in tents (tents are included) and meals are served in a dinner tent or on a blanket outside. It is done over 6 days, so acclimatization is easier, and the success rate is fairly high. It is for physically fit people with some hiking experience. Descent is down the Mweka trail staying at the Mweka or Millenium camp the final night on the mountain.
Inclusions: Lunch, Breakfast, Dinner

The tour was executed exactly as expected. The driver was punctual, the guides came with all I needed for the trip, and they were quite accommodating. They were also accommodating to me being vegan, and the meal was better than expected honestly, and fairly filling. Special shout out to my guide Nickson, he was very knowledgeable and didn't spare any effort to explain about the mountain, it's history, and the species living there. He was quite passionate about his job. The communication with the company was also quite easy.

The Machame route is one of the most beautiful routes to the top of Mt Kilimanjaro. The climb begins in the lush rainforest and follows a path that offers occasional views of Mt Meru, Shira Ridge as well the main summit of Mt Kilimanjaro – Kibo. The Machame route contains more steep passages and higher altitudes than the Marangu and the Rongai route and is slightly more demanding.

Despite the covid situation we decided to go to Tanzania for climbing Kilimanjaro and doing a 3 days safari. We choose Tanzania Horizon after some research and we could not be happier. Both crew on the mountain and the safari was amazing and super helpful at all times. On top of that very easy and clear communication from beginning to the end. If you go to Tanzania and want to see the country in its best possible way, book with these guys! Thanks a mill again ????????

Known as the “Whiskey” route, the Machame route is now the most popular route on the mountain. Compared with Marangu, the days on Machame are longer and the walks are steeper. The Machame route is considered a difficult route, and is better suited for more adventurous folks and those with some hiking or backpacking experience. The route begins from the south, then heads east, traversing underneath Kilimanjaro’s southern ice field before summiting. The minimum number of days required for this route is six days, although seven days is recommended. The Machame route is scenically beautiful and varied. My Hubby, John and I first climbed Kili in June 2015. We met a really awesome group of guys led by David who is the head guide. The team are really passionate about their jobs and love what they do making sure you enjoy every step of your journey. We loved the experience so much we went back in June 2018 with a group of friends to experience the Machame Route a 2nd time. The experience for us was even better than what we remembered the 1st time. Although the 2nd time was quite different to the first with heavy ice on the summit night. The porters as always were very friendly and welcoming, making sure they were always prepared and awaiting our arrival at each camp every day. Each day we were welcomed by singing, popcorn, biscuits, hot tea and coffee and of course the mandatory bowl of warm water to refresh ourselves. Each day had its own challenges but David and his team made each step a memorable one with the usual "Pole Pole" whenever we felt quite adventurous and wanted to motor ahead. The meals at lunch and dinner were spectacular and one would never know that they had been prepared on the mountain. Overall, it was a breathtaking and an awesome experience for us and especially to experience the climb again with good friends and a team from Enjoy Kili who you could rely on at all times. Their experience over more than 20 years really showed in the manner in which they shared their knowledge and skills. I would highly recommend David, Frazier and their team from ENJOY KILI.

The Machame route is our most popular and successful route leading to the summit of Kilimanjaro. Hikers sleep in tents which are carried up the mountain by porters. The Machame route is a very scenic and beautiful route, which can be completed in 6 days, however we strongly recommend hiking the route in 7 days, allowing for more time to acclimatise. The key to the success of the Machame route is its topography, allowing hikers to climb high and sleep low, helping towards better acclimatisation. There are however two drawbacks on this route:

Out Kili trek 2020 was Organised by David Mshana of Enjoy Kili. The price quoted was very reasonable and value for money. The preclimb orientation, advice on equipment and packing list. Tips on successful climb to reach the summit, procuring equipment was all very thorough and professional, on arrival from Daressalaam we were received and taken to our hotel, the preclimb inspection and briefing very technical. Our team of Guides Issac and Fanuel, cook, waiter Mr Peter and our porters were all amazing and very helpful at all times. Out of 5 members in our party 3 members reached the Uhuru one thats me reached the gilmans point and one suffered from acute altitude sickness at Kibo. The services provided were superb always pushing us that we can do it. I would like to thank David of Enjoy Kili on behalf of our team for our success and wellbeing. I intend to organise a group in September 2020 to take my last daughter and her friends to climb mt Kilimanjaro. J will gladly use the services of Enjoy Kili. The Machame Route is approximately 62 km/ 37 miles from gate to gate. It is designed for physically fit people with some hiking experience, but plenty of the first-time trekkers use the route as well and do just fine. It is rated as one of Kilimanjaro's best routes and thus is recommended.

Our original plan was to climb Mt Kilimanjaro in January 2019, but we had to postpone our trip for family health reasons and Intrepid Explorer Tanzania was able to defer our trip for more than a year at no cost. Thanks Wence! We were a party of two guys in good physical shape. We climbed the mountain on the Lemosho route with a party of 2 guides and 10 porters. The guides, Shafi and Nuru, tailored the pace based on our ability, so we completed the climb in 6 days. The guides were knowledgeable and answered all our questions about the mountain, it's flora and fauna. On the assent morning, they timed our start so that we would arrive at the summit at dawn, it was well planned and implemented. They hiked with us at all times and were engaging and interesting companions. The porters worked hard to break and set-up camp three times a day, the food was surprisingly good considering everything was carried by hand on the mountain. Would consider using ear plugs as some of larger camps were noisy at night. I also recommend paying for a private toilet! Overall, it was a great experience, I wholeheartedly recommend Intrepid Explorer Tanzania for organizing a climb of Mt Kilimanjaro!

Machame is one of our favourite routes for several reasons. Firstly, it has one of the highest success rates - 90% for a 7-day trek. Secondly, it's great for acclimatisation, allowing you to naturally "walk high, sleep low" every day. Great scenery that changes every day as you climb up higher, plus you get to take on the challenge of the Great Barranco Wall. If reaching Kilimanjaro's summit is your number one priority, then the Machame route will give you the best shot at this. Since it has a great success rate and is attractive, the Machame route is undoubtedly the busiest on the mountain. To help mitigate this, we make sure all our groups hit the trail early and get ahead of the crowds. We also send part of the porter team ahead of you so that they get into the campsites early to get a good spot, as well as making sure that your tent is ready and a nice hot drink and snacks are waiting for you when you arrive.

Me and my friends climbed Mount Kilimanjaro via the 6 day Machame route. It was one of the most difficult but at the same time amazing thing I have ever done in my life. The thrill of standing there, at the peak touching the sign saying you have successfully climbed Mount Kilimanjaro is something I cannot explain as it is beyond words. I would truly recommend Pinnacle adventures and Safaris Co L.t.d to anyone wishing to summit the mountain. Thank you again Pinnacle for giving us the experience of a lifetime!

Our second most popular route, this route offers easy access to the trailhead, varied scenery along the route, and ascends on the west. Barranco Camp, the third campsite on this route, is a favorite amongst our mountain staff. This is also the most popular camping route overall, so you will be joined by a lot of fellow climbers. We offer superior service, route planning, and high-end equipment to ensure your trek is hassle free and that you’ll summit successfully. We started out as a Kilimanjaro trekking company, and has been leading climbs up Kili and Meru for almost twenty years. Mountaineering support remains a key part of our business. With our long history of arranging treks, we know how to support you to summit successfully and safely, and to also have an enjoyable and rewarding hike getting there.

My husband and I booked our Tanzanian safari directly with Stacy, co-owner of Chaka Camps and Duma Explorer, which we highly recommend. You can plan a bespoke safari staying in luxury tented camps for less than you might think. It really gave us peace of mind to know that we would have the same vehicle and guide to ourselves for our six day safari during the pandemic. If you’re considering Tanzania in 2021-GO! This is the time to visit when there are few tourists. There were only 10 vehicles in the Ngorongoro Crater when we visited, often there are 400 vehicles a day during high season, and we had multiple sightings of critically endangered black rhino. One person made this trip a roaring success and that was our guide Isack. He can spot animals from a kilometer away without binoculars! It is truly incredibly what he could find on our game drives and this skill is only surpassed by his vast knowledge of all the animals, birds and flora in northern Tanzania. I learned so much on this trip and we have been on several safaris before. It was our best safari yet! The custom-fitted Land Cruiser with pop top is incredibly comfortable for hours of road travel and has some fabulous features like a picnic table embedded in the floorboard. We stayed in luxury tented camps- Chaka Camp in Ndutu and Kiota Camp in the Serengeti. Beautifully decorated and oh so comfortable- glamping at its best with delicious food and welcoming hosts!
