Things to do in Los Angeles, California (CA): The Best Other Outdoor Activities

Hollywood beckons to tourists who long for a brush with Tinseltown glamor. Tour movie studios, slip your hands into the famous prints at the TCL Chinese Theatre, or indulge in a celeb sighting at one of LA’s white-hot nightspots. Spot your favorite star while shopping at The Grove, or forget all about the famous eye candy as you take in the iconic artwork at The Getty Center. For a different type of star-gazing, peek through the telescopes at the Griffith Observatory.

This was one of my favorite discoveries in the Pacific Palisades. The garden there is breathtaking and so peaceful. There are beautiful quotes and statues for you. Small seats to stop, relax, pray or meditate. You leave there feeling stress free and calm. Love it and will definitely go back every visit to LA.

Laurel Cannyon

Knowing of the history of laurel canyon and wanting to tour around seeing the famous houses and the famous view of downtown LA. I Google searched the best way to see laurel canyon. Fortunately there’s a local resident who offers an early morning sunrise tour (afternoon tours are also available), They can be found at laurel canyon tours and are very accommodating to your specific time and needs. I opted for the sunrise tour, which starts at 6:30 am. It’s easy to get an Uber directly to the start point which is in Kirkwood bowl. The tour guide offers a small selection of snacks and water to take on the hike, I do recommend taking further bottles of water. The gradient of the hike is very doable but please be mindful that there are some sections that are very steep and this should be considered when taking the hike. The guide does stop frequent after the tough sections so you can re-gather your breath. The hike is recommended for intermediate but this can be done by anyone in reasonable health. The hike is not recommended for anyone with physical disabilities as there are some sections which will not be accessible. The tour itself is a fabulous insight to the 60s and 70s musical era and those who lived in Laurel Canyon with an insight to what went on and where during this very important time period of music. There is lots to see with the tour stopping halfway through to take in the most fantastic views of downtown LA, and at sunrise it was truly spectacular. The tour finishes off at the famous laurel canyon store where everyone bought their groceries and of course chocolate! I recommend this hike/tour to anyone who has an interest in 60s and 70s American musical history or to those who simply want to take in alternative view downtown LA. I would advise to wear comfortable clothing and shoes and if taking the sunrise to wear warm clothing as it quite chilly before sunrise. Joseph, the tour guide, is a very warm and welcoming person who is full of fascinating information about the area and those that lived and do you still live in Laurel Canyon and the Kirkwood bowl. There is a second part of the tour which takes you downtown towards the Venice beach area which features sites that Jim Morrison and The Doors frequented. I’ll be taking the second part of the tour on my next visit to Los Angeles and I’m hoping to review this as and when I do.
