The Original Farmers Market

The Original Farmers Market has been Los Angeles’ favorite destination since 1934. With more than 100 old-world grocers, an eclectic array of shops and dozens of restaurants serving cuisine from around the globe in an al fresco setting, the Market is a beloved town square for locals and one of the city’s top tourist attractions. Known for its variety of cuisine, the Market offers something for every taste - American, Brazilian, Cajun, Chinese, French, Italian, Middle Eastern and more! Many of the businesses have been family-owned and operated for generations. Recently the Market had added a variety of artisan grocery and specialty food merchants this year including organic, seasonal produce, gourmet pickles, single origin coffee and more! The Market strictly adheres to all Los Angeles County Covid-19 protocols.

This is a beautiful and expansive Farmers Market in the heart of Los Angeles. The atmosphere is lively and it has a fine, positive vibe. One of our hop on hop off bus stops was in front of the market and we decided to get out and explore - and that turned out to be a good decision. This market has been in existence since 1934. There is quite a bunch of interesting vendor stalls and food options inside the area. I tried the coffee-in-a-waffle at the WaffleShot cafe, an excellent experience! They made an excellent latte and served it up in a waffle cone of choice, that was indeed one of the highlights for me. There were a wide range of food stalls serving up a variety of cuisines. Of the top of my head, I could remember seeing Mediterranean, Chinese, Japanese, Israeli, Mexican and Southern cuisine options to add to an assortment of sandwich shops, Coffee Shops, Waffles and Creperies. There was a good crowd at most of the places when we went, around midday on a Sunday afternoon. There are some exclusive shops selling fresh produce, fruits, nuts, honey and tea leaves. There are also some souvenir shops as well. Overall, this place is a must visit to capture a local Angeleno vibe. An lovely place to walk around, do some shopping, have some good variety of food or even simply watch the tide of people going by!

Our granddaughters love anything American Girl. We took them on our way to Legoland. The store is beautifully organized with a lot of displays at their level that they can actually touch. Of course, they brought their dolls, one of which was a little worse for wear. No worries, they were able to get all of the scratches off and make the baby doll look like new. The other doll had her hair done. My eight-year-old had fun designing her own tee-shirt. It is a very nice quality and has held up perfectly in the wash. We spent about two hours in the store and had a wonderful time together. We gave them a budget before we went in, so they had fun figuring out what they could buy. The girls were in "seventh heaven."
