Arthropoda - Butterfly Museum

The exhibition is the largest permanent display of world's butterflies in Poland. Over five thousand (5049) specimen from all over the world can be viewed. Realised in 2009 by Jacek Kobiela and his son Filip Kobiela, the collection is a crowning of the over 35 year lasting passion of the former. Together, the two represent the second and the third generation of collectors in the family. They continue the legacy of Prof. Stanislaw Fischer, who established the Bochnia Museum in 1959, which currently bears his name. ,,Arthropoda's" collection includes an overview of day and night butterflies divided into families and genuses present in all of the world's continents. The collection shows arthropods - the biggest group of animals living on earth: day and night butterflies, beetles (Poland and world), scorpions, mantes, hemiptera. Species from around Bochnia comprise a substantial part of the collection. The exhibition is complemented by a selection of macro pictures of butterflies and beetle heads shot by Filip Kobiela. Butterfly classification is based on the taxonomy of Linnaeus, who first introduced latin binomial nomenclature describing biological species. The museum presents species, whose appearance and biology ilustrate various natural phenomena - a moth doesn't have to be grey and a butterfly can be a leaf, an owl or a tiger.

Poland history re-enacted using thousands of Lego Bricks and clever projections. There is a ton of technical marvel here, the audio guide is synched with your position, there are VR goggles, the lego buildings and battlefields are enhanced with 3D projections and in one exhibition you can highlight different areas of a miniature by waving your hand. 100% recommended!

Centrum Edukacji Przyrodniczej TPN

We've been to this place many years ago, when it was still called museum rather than educational centre, and shared it's premises with Tatras National Park authorities, as their seat. A lot has changed since, National Parks headquaters moved to old Zamoyski mansion in Kuźnice district of Zakopane, and the building itself underwent a large redevelopment, which included arranging new, modern exhibition part, suitable for 21st century. Todays educational centre is still located in the same building at Chałubińskiego street, just of large busy roudabout, and it's still a quiet oasis, due to being a bit back from the street, surrounded by trees. A bit confusing signs at the entrance to the centre's enclosure, saying "mind the deer" and "don't feed the deer", which raised our hopes for meeting this animal face to face, but even if we took a stroll around the premises - we never found one. Anyway, first of all we decided to visit the exhibition inside, and then to have walk around on a educational path. Indoor exhibitions are all set up in currently fashionable multimedia style. All those stuffed animals, which used to be left in glassed cabinets in the nineties, now are are presented in their natural habitats, and all those arrangements look like cut off from the nature and moved into the Centre. There's quite a few rooms of it, there's one small cinema room, and then there's a room with huge model of Tatra mountains. There's a room arranged like a cave, with all sounds one would hear in cave, which is mainly water dropping. There are also rooms, which are ony available to organised groups of school kids. Any trip, any exploration of Tatra National Park should really start here, even if that deer is not there. Or maybe it is there, we just couldn't find it?

The poster in the main square did not fully indicate how much fun we were going to have. Some of the exhibits were very very realistic and others were ... fun. Great post Auschwitz therapy.
