Cog Hill Golf & Country Club

This course hosts the PGA's Western Open every year.

I played Dubsdread after a huge storm which made the course even more soft. I made the mistake of playing from the tips at 7500. With no roll on your drives it made the course impossible to score on with how long it plays. With that said, it is one of the best conditioned courses I've ever played and I've played a bunch of major championship venues. The greens rolled beautifully. My only complaint would be the course felt a bit repetitive. Very minor complaint. I can't say enough how well the facilities, people, and conditions of the course were. Highly highly recommend. Play the right tee boxes and the course will be more fun. It's probably not the course for you if you are above a 15-20 handicap. Play one of the other courses and save some money and sanity.

Cal Sag BikeTrail

Reviewed By Toyota1994 - Chicago, United States

The Cal-Sag Trail is one of the best trails in the Chicago area. I rode my bike a few times on this trail this summer. The current stretch is 12 miles long running from near the Sag Quarries in Lemont to Freedom Park in Alsip in the east. When completed, the trail will stretch to 26 miles (the maps posted along trail misleadingly show the full 26 mile route). The trail is smooth, asphalt paved, and wide enough for comfortable 2-way traffic. The four miles near Lemont go through lovely restored prairie, while further east the trail traverses through forests providing ample shade. The trail is very well maintained and well-marked with directions and mileage. One gets beautiful views of the Cal-Sag Canal, bridges and trail underpasses at several spots. The best section of the trail is the first seven mile stretch (starting from Lemont) which does not have any road crossings. The beautiful architectural arches erected over the trail at the trailheads offer a nice welcome to trail users. I find the Cal-Sag Trail to be one of the most enjoyable trails in the Chicago area. Excellent attractions to enjoy off the bike while on this trail are: Sagawu Nature Center, Lake Catherine Gardens and Worth Waterfalls.

Sagawau Environmental Learning Center

Reviewed By Toyota1994 - Chicago, United States

Sagawau Environmental Center in Lemont is a nature preserve with a Learning Center.  Due to the pandemic, the Learning Center was closed when I visited recently in November.  But the trails were open for hiking, though the canyon trail was closed for maintenance.  What caught my attention right away was a large bird feeder area near the Learning Center building.  In spite of the cool fall weather, there were a large number of birds getting food from the feeders.  It would be nice if a bird-blind was set up nearby to watch the birds close-up.   I went on two trails and enjoyed the leisurely hikes even though the trees had shed most of their leaves.  The grassy trails are well tended and run through wooded areas.  I understand that the trails are groomed in the winter for cross-country skiing.  I will certainly visit Sagawau Environmental Learning Center again when all the facilities are open.

What a pleasant surprise!!! Having experienced Cog Hill Golf Course(s) in August, we moved down the road to play a round at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club. Wow!! We can't wait to return! An incredible Pete Dye layout with fun, challenging holes and outstanding green conditions. I would highly recommend to any golfer...however, be ready to set aside about five hours for your round. Play was a bit slow...but still most enjoyable!
