Things to do in Jersey Shore, Jersey Shore: The Best Zoos & Aquariums

April 30, 2022 Kandra Bartel

The Atlantic coast of New Jersey, with its beaches and boardwalks, stretches from Sandy Hook in the north to Cape May in the south. Fresh ocean breezes fan 127 miles of sandy beaches. Drive between cities or catch a NJ Transit bus or Atlantic City jitney bus. Atlantic City packs people in to nightlife venues and casinos. Wildwood's boardwalk is well-trod. Asbury Park is once again popular, particularly with gays and lesbians. Cape May's restaurants and Victorian inns lure tourists to the historic town.

Popcorn Park Zoo

We've been coming to the Popcorn Park Zoo for years and love the mission of the zoo: saving and protecting animals in need. This was our first visit bringing our daughter, and she loved it too -- she's 2, so getting to see animals she's only read about in books (tigers, bears, monkeys, etc.) was really cool. It's small enough to easily see all exhibits, but has a wide array of animals to keep everyone entertained. We especially love reading about each animal's story as we make our rounds -- the Humane Society does incredible work, and we're so grateful a haven like this exists for animals in need.

Seaport Aquarium

Reviewed By ellendF8497JK - Detroit, United States

In the past 5 or so years, this exhibit has been non-stop improving and getting more amazing. I think there is a new owner, well not "new" anymore b/c it's 2019 but new from when I started visiting b/c it's like night and day better from 10 years ago. Every year the exhibits get bigger and bigger. I can feed so many of the animals. The alligators have land and water and I can feed these pellets of nutrient-rich food to them. They are brown and fall in the water for them to catch. I suppose they must dye the water sometimes when the animals are full but the water was clean when I was there. Nutrient-rich food seems to be a common theme. I got a tour from the owner who was super knowledgable on all the animals and he told me so many of them are rescued from bad environments. I rescued my dog so I love that he does that. I saw him giving fresh bananas and grapes and veggies to the animals. That's food I even love! Anyways. a few points that make me come back year over year. -to watch the animals grow. The owner obviously takes good care of these creatures every winter. -to watch the improvements he makes to the infrastructure and the exhibits. it just gets better and better. -in hopes for more tours. If you can get the owner to give you one, it's so worth it. -it a super affordable thing to do on what adds up to be a pricey vacation for the week. -it's fun for all ages. My advice. go for sure. Esp if you have kids. It's super cool and educational.
