Hilltop Walled Ancient City of Motovun

Reviewed By Brittany_11_10 - Los Angeles, United States

Perfect to visit right now because basically no one's there, and everything's free (well, parking and entering the walled city). It is quaint, cute, historical, and it offers great views of the surrounding area. You can park near the church and then walk up half a kilometer or so. What's open right now are a few restaurants and shops, and the turnstiles are "set aside" (i.e., open) to enter the courtyard area at the very top.

The Town Hall (City Palace)

the Town Hall is next to the Augustus Temple, both in the Forum, and still the heart of the old town for daily life, after 2000 years!

Arco dei Sergi

Reviewed By Eyekaytoo - Leverkusen, Germany

On our family stroll around Pula on afternoon recently we came across this impressive Roman Triumphal arch purely by accident. Once again we were thrilled to see that such architectural masterpieces have survived the rigours of time. This one, apparently erected a couple of decades before Christ, celebrates some of the Sergii family, notably Lucius Sergius Lepidus. He fought against Mark Anthony and Cleopatra of Egypt in the sea Battle of Actium in the Ionian Sea, north west of Greece (near Preveza today). Monumental sea battles in the Ionian Sea a few millennia ago seem a far cry from the gentle entrance to the quaint, old town on Pula in the 21st century. Amazing really.

Decumanus Street

from the main square walk up " Decumanus Street " , the street is so clean, there are many stores and cafe's & restaurants....if you get lost ask a local, they speak English and really want to assist you, walk to the end and you will reach the left over from the Roman Ruins called " Trg Marafor "... I enjoyed looking at them and take pictures, would love to share them with you, but there is no link to do so..
