Things to do in Island of Malta, Malta: The Best Wine Tours & Tastings

October 27, 2021 Carley Gatson

One of the three principal islands of the Maltese archipelago, the island of Malta is the largest of the chain. Its capital Valletta, a lively, bustling city with many buildings dating back to the 16th century, teems with cathedrals, palaces and forts. The impressive Grand Harbour offers a dramatic arrival. The top archaeological attraction is the UNESCO-designated Hypogeum temple ruins, a macabre, 5400-square-foot underground necropolis and the world's only underground prehistoric temple.

Christian was incredibly generous in bringing us to local spots around Malta. From going to a local coffee shop in Rabat and trying delicious pastizzis in all the while embracing the vibe of locals, to wine testing with Marc (an awesome character that I enjoyed having a few glasses of wine with and a great conversation I won't forget). A taste of Malta breads from a traditional oven made us go back day after day. The tasty olive oil from the branches you get to touch, was a learning experience for me and I'll never taste olive oil the same as I did before this tour. This is an experience not to be missed if you want to get a touch of local Malta foods and artisanal small scale productions. Grab a ride with Christian. He has a lot to share. And yeah.... Go with an empty stomach. You won't regret it. Rich and jo

This was excellent value for money! Everyone we dealt with was professional and our driver was amazing. The night before our tour we arranged an itinerary for the next day by email and the timings suggested for each stop were spot on. No waiting around in the hot sun for the bus and in 5 hours we saw heaps. Highly recommend.

My husband and I went on this tour in November 2019. The tour guide said he was not a guide but a driver to take us to Game of Throne Sites. He gave us a amateurish booklet with rude pictures of Game of Throne scenes that were to correspond to the sites. We saw Fort St. Elmo from a distance because the driver said it was closed to the public, which we later learned was a lie. There were several other sites that we saw only from a distance. The booklet clearly showed Gozo as a site that we were supposed to visit, but the driver refused and took us to Popeye Village instead. We refused to go there as it would involve additional expense and was not a Game of Throne site. To add insult to injury, the driver took away the booklets that I had clearly paid for (that would at least have been a way to review the sites), stating that they were too expensive for us to keep. I did call and request a partial refund from Viator and was refused after presenting them with evidence of this rip-off. Please don't waste your money on this! I have lost a lot of respect for Trip Advisor based on this horrible experience.

Waited 45 minutes and called and texted about 10 times. Driver was a no show so had to catch taxi. Got a message the next day saying that he was sick and forgot to let us know. Cancelled my return trip to airport. I would not use again. Taxi from airport easier and they charge a flat rate which was cheaper.
