Things to do in Indiana, United States: The Best Tours

October 2, 2021 Joeann Galban

With beaches, boating, and salmon fishing in Michigan City and Gary bordering Lake Michigan, there is more to Indiana than might appear at first glance. The agricultural heartland even has cross country skiing and snowmobiling to go with the Cornball Express. Southwest Indiana near Evansville is renowned for the well-preserved Native American Angel Mounds State Historic Site. The largest city and state capital is famous worldwide for its Indianapolis 500 race. Even locals living in the suburbs often overlook the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Eiteljorg Museum, NCAA Hall of Champions, the old Union Station museum cluster, and downtown Canal Walk, to name but a few landmarks. South Bend is synonymous with the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.

Forested Nashville’s art colony fame dates to the early 1900s when Impressionist Theodore Clement Steele overwintered in The House of the Singing Winds. It is now the T.C. Steele State Historic Site. View paintings and sculpture at the I.M. Pei-designed Indiana University Museum of Art. Attend an IU sports event or an opera, ballet, concert, or theater performance. Treat the family to The Little Nashville Opry or The Bill Monroe Bluegrass Park. For healing mineral springs, head south to Orange County, Indiana’s spa resort center.

Enjoy golf, fishing, boating, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and ice skating in the nation’s agricultural heartland. Monticello and Rensselaer are west of Logansport and north of Lafayette. Take the family on the Cornball Express and Hoosier Hurricane at the Indiana Beach Amusement Resort in Monticello. Play boardwalk carnival games, or let the kids loose on the go-carts. Pile the family into their vehicles for an old-fashioned movie experience at Monticello’s Lake Shore Drive-In. Indulge in a weekend dinner boat cruise to hot band sounds as the Madam Carroll plies Lake Freeman.

This was a great experience in learning how to make sushi, spring rolls and miso soup. The food we made was also very good to eat. Our teacher was wonderful! She held our interest, freely gave us hints, background information and was overall fun to listen. She readily gave us tidbits on Japanese culture, what equipment was best to buy and how to make the most of what we purchased (such as making a rice cooker cake in the rice cooker). We highly recommend this for learning, entertainment and a great way to spend a few hours!!!

This is something you must try if you haven’t already it was a lot of fun!! Tip-for anyone who is traveling and plans on doing this the same day you arrive pay attention to the difference in time zone if it applies. I booked online in advance but planned on going same day we arrived into Indianapolis from Wisconsin and I didn’t take into consideration the 1 hour time difference. Luckily when I called and explained what happened they said it does happen often with travelers and they were able to reschedule me for next day just a different mission as I was only in town for a couple of days. The mission I originally booked had no more openings for my time frame. We ended up doing the James bond which I was told is normally for a larger group ( a lot to find and do in this room) but they made it work for a party of 2 and my husband and I had a great time! We had Kaitlyn I believe was her name who led us into mission and she was great and a lot of fun! I am so excited that I want to plan a family event so they can all try! It was a little rough having to keep mask on when your kind of running around trying to find clues etc., but I understand safety and health 1st. I hope this helps anyone who is planning a visit here. If you attend you will definitely have fun. This was our 1st time trying and it was a blast even though we didn’t make it out!
