Things to do in Honolulu, Hawaii (HI): The Best Gardens

March 29, 2022 Myesha Cogley

The mere mention of Hawaii is enough to prompt visions of grass skirts and colorful cocktails with tiny umbrellas. While you will find some kitsch in Honolulu, you’ll also find art museums, bike paths, and some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Popular Waikiki Beach has soft sands and great surf. For majestic Oahu views scramble to the top of Diamond Head – a 350-acre volcanic crater. Historic structures like Iolani Palace and Ali'iolani Hale are worth a visit on a non-beach day.

This was a really special tour. I grew up on the other side of Manoa Valley and always saw this house while driving by. The tour was very informative and who knew that there was such historical significance on the grounds of this house. It was a great opportunity to catch some history about the valley and experience a little bit of the liquid sunshine we get in Manoa.

Foster botanical gardens are a great place to visit. The entry fee is reasonable and a great price. It's a nice place to visit and wasn't very busy when we went. There's a nice gift shop and the gardens are nicely kept. I would recommend that you wear bug spray as there are bugs that can bite you. Nice place for all ages.

Its beautiful but gets wet on the uneven trail. Lots of trees you won't see anywhere else, also beautiful flowers and orchids.

C. B. Lansing Memorial Garden

My husband and I had a complicated travel itinerary that required dropping off a rental car six hours prior to our outbound flight at the end of vacation. I looked into the Bishop Museum and other attractions, but most things closed at 5 pm, which would not have given us enough time. I read online about the lovely cultural gardens tgat are actually INSIDE of Terminal 2 at the airport (Japanese, Chinese, and Korean gardens). We gathered some snacks and our Kindles for reading, and spent several hours enjoying the lush tranquility of the gardens. There are benches to sit and paths to walk. They have enormous koi in the ponds, and there are several waterfalls. It was a nice, no cost way to wrap up our vacation.

Koko Crater Botanical Garden

Reviewed By aussieswife9 - Venice, United States

While living in Honolulu for 8 months, I tried to get to many places on Oahu, and this was one of my favorites. Not only was it free, but what a gorgeous place to get my daily walking in. Inside Koko Crater, the entrance when the flowers are in bloom is amazing. Surprisingly, as you wind around the trail, there is an amazing Cacti Garden with so many varieties of desert plants, and on around to the African, and Indian section of amazing trees, until you wind back and experience another huge Plumeria Grove. Rough terrain, so wear good walking shoes, but it is not a hard walk, and there is quite a bit of shade. Some really spectacular specimens of trees and plants from around the world. Take your camera and a spare battery...lots to see.
