This is a tramp. Not a walk. The weather can change. But hot pools at both ends. See DOC. or go with a tramping club. Is a long drive to the start at the Elm Trees. Can camp there. Know how to leave no trace and clean up if others have left a mess so you cannot be blamed for it. Hot pools at the start. about 3 hours trek to big DOC hut. about over an hour to hot pools. can tent camp there. Is a total clean air zone, no smoking. check about fire permits. must have camp fire skills and know how to fully put out and leave no trace, or you could get a bill of millions of dollars if you lite a fire and a fire spread, whether or not it was your fire that started it. good place for families and an over night camp.

Walks everywhere. Over old historical embankment bridge. And can bicycle ride slowly as well.Just giveaway all walkers. Use google maps in satellite view. Can see all the extra places. And ask the locals. Go explore. See photos. Like from south end of old embankment bridge (there is a fresh water tape there, look for it on the east side of old road) , walk west under expressway then along the stopbank to where the end of the airport runway is. And watch the planes land and take off. Like on north west side of expressway is the bird watching bush reserve. Labels westshore reserve on map. See my “tour of Napier plan” post somewhere in here.

We spent a few days 8n the Hawkes Bay Napier region rrying out the tracks, out of the 4 tracks we did they are all highly Recommended. They are all well sign posted and the riding tracks are good surfaces. Only let down there is a few gates that you have to get off your bikes and manually open which can slow you down a bit. Most of the rides are flat.

Really beautiful falls (we only walked to the first one as we had my mom with us who is 75 but she managed easily). Lovely pool to swim in under the falls where my 12yo son swam. We sat on the side dipping our toes in the water. Really worthwhile!
