It was truly amazing It was my first open air museum and won’t be the last The sculptures are incredible and go perfectly with the impecable gardens Also you have plenty Picasso art which gives a good contrast with the outside exposures

For many people, the attraction here will largely lie in the exceptionally beautiful gardens. Part of them consist of a shady moss-covered area and part of a more formal display of Japanese shrubs and trees. The whole thing amounts to what I think is the best small garden I have ever visited in Japan. We were there on an overcast day in late May, but I would imagine it would be gorgeous whatever time you visit - autumn especially of course. The museum itself provides a relatively small exhibition of Japanese artefacts that will likely only turn on an expert or aficionado of historically important porcelain and ceramics. For the layman, not much of stunning beauty or interest. Free parking is available across the street, and you can get a discounted joint ticket for the museum/grounds plus Gora Park nearby (also worth a visit)

The building itself is worth a visit. This is not meant to detract from the interesting, worthwhile exposition of modern art. You can actually walk to it from Gora train station. Don’t miss

The Okada Museum of Art opened in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan in 2013. Okada Museum of Art displays approximately 450 artworks. Japan’s leading artists including Katsushika Hokusai, Kitagawa Utamaro, Tawaraya Sotatsu, and Ito Jakuchu,all have their artwork on display here so this museum is definitely a must-see. In front of the mural “Wind/Time” depicting the Wind God and Thunder God are footbaths with constantly flowing 100% natural hot spring water (No hydrolysis-warming). This alkaline hot spring water is perfect for relaxing after enjoying the Museum. A restaurant is also located on the grounds, making this an art museum you can enjoy your entire day in.

The collection at this private museum outside of Hakone is a marvel. Each successive room filled with beautiful screens, exquisite pottery and vases, sculpture, bowls and textiles is unsurpassed. We could have spent more time there because of the many well curated treasures here.

Narukawa Museum is only one museum to display Japanese collections thanks to Mr. Narukawa. NHK broadcast TV camera is set inside this building, scenery from a big window is so beautiful panorama Lake Asai and Mt. Fuji. Japanese painting are depicted on WASHI(Japanese genuine paper) then put iwa-enogu(grinned natural stone) to stick together mikawa (a glue boiled liquid with skin, bone and colon) . Famous painter Ikuo Hirayama is masterpieces of this museum.

A brand new museum, opened 15th July 2016. It is the only museum specialized in dollhouse in Japan. The building is a renovated greenhouse, so it is full of nature, such as flowers of Hakone, which is very rare for an art museum. The collection includes two of the world’s largest antique collections; Vivien Greene and Mott’s Miniatures. There are also modern works of Europe, USA and Japan.

Very friendly and detailed history and artifacts of Japanese Karakuri Boxes. With historical and contemporary puzzles. Many pieces had limited quantities so they are rare and can hardly be seen. The founder is a collector himself and made his collectables available to the public,
