Things to do in Great Barrier Reef, Queensland: The Best Historical & Heritage Tours

July 30, 2021 Moriah Teneyck

The world's largest coral reef system, the Great Barrier Reef stretches almost 1500 miles into the Pacific from the tip of Queensland. Designated a Marine Park by the Australian government and a World Heritage Area by UNESCO, the reef is home to an extraordinary abundance of species and habitats. Snorkeling, diving and fishing are rightly popular along the reef, nowhere more so than on the Whitsunday Islands, where the silica sands and aqua waters of the Coral Sea create the perfect beach escape.

Neil is very knowledgeable and has fabulous anecdotes about the island ranging from environmental considerations to the gossip of the early occupants and recipes for green ants! Lots of really interesting and picturesque stops. If you're short on time this is the best way to learn a lot about the Island in a few hours. Really appreciated the flexibility for the small group. If we needed more time to take photos then no worries. Bus was clean, COVID Safe and well equipped (just the right amount of aircon). Neil is also an excellent driver. Highly recommended.

Our party of four went on the day long adventure with our tour guide Rob. We started off with the drive to Mossman Gorge to see the beauty and tranquility on show (plus the fairly large orb weaver spider outside the building .... not for the faint hearted). Then onto the river cruise on the Daintree to see a few crocodiles. After a couple of other stops we made it to our lunch time destination where we were served a good lunch for some hungry travellers. The 2nd last destination was up to Cape Tribulation. The beauty and serenity of this location must be enjoyed if you are in FNQ. Final destination was to Daintree Ice Cream for a very delicious tasting and then homeward bound. A great day with some incredible scenery, wildlife and locations. A special shout-out to our tour guide Rob who kept us informed all trip with historical tales, jokes and music ..... 5 stars to you ... you made the day ????????????????????. Don’t miss this part of Australia’s beauty if you can

Tour guide very enthusiastic. Really it is just a lot of broken concrete. falling down buildings. This venue is not suitable for wheelie walkers or wheelchairs as their are multiple stairs, gravel and uneven surfaces. Even people with walking issues would have problems getting around. Entry to this venue was part of our day trip with Northern Experience Eco Tours however I would not pay $47 entrance fee if I went on my own.. This is way overpriced for what you get.

His commentary and anecdotes ensured we were entertained whilst travelling between stops. Loved the winery, distillery and Gallo's Cheese and chocolates. The platypus hut at the end is an excellent way to end the day, highly recommend this tour.
