Casale Marchese

Casale Marchese is built over two ancient Roman cisterns. Earliest references date back to the Papal Bull of Boniface VIII, dated 12 May 1301, where the estate is listed as part of the Annibaldi family assets. The Casale is indicated as the home of the marquis Emilio de’ Cavalieri(1550 – 1602),a famous musician. The estate, of over 50 hectares, lies deep in Frascati DOCG terroir, the buildings nestling in a hilly area covered in vineyards and age-old olive trees.

WOW! What an experience, I found Minardi wine tours on trip advisor, Alfredo was incredibly quick to respond and accommodating for our groups specific dietary requirements and tight timings. Max - our host around Frisanti - is such a character! and very knowledgeable of this beautiful historical town where we got to try local bread and wine. After a short while walking round the town, we were picked up and taken on the short journey to the vineyard which absolutely takes your breath away, and is steeped in family history. Alfredo’s father showed us around and it was amazing to hear from a 9th generation wine maker. He was incredibly passionate and had many stories to tell! We then tried the families’ DOCG white wine and local olive oil with bread in the wine ‘museum’ which led into a 4 course tasting menu with matching wine - all of which was exceptional - hats off to Luigi the chef who also has a hidden operatic singing talent which we were lucky enough to witness as this experience was booked for my birthday! Luigi and Alfredo surprised us with a piano and operatic show and it was just fabulous. Thank you to you all - you made our final night in Italy a night we will never forget.

Cozy place with communal tables and cheap homemade wine. Stopped by for a quick drink and was met with the friendly owner who was watching TV. He didn't speak English, but poured me a glass of his white wine and let me chill. Wine was good, and he claimed that it was local. Some people dropped by and chatted with him. At the end, it was only €2.50. When night drops, he takes out some tables and chairs to chill outside.

I'm English, but Italian by adoption. I've lived in Italy for 40 years, (25 in the Castelli Romani) and I am part of the Italian community rather than the ex-pat one. I paint. I like wine. I am a qualified sommelier (FIS) and I've worked in tourism all my life. I am passionate about my local towns and Frascati is my center of gravity. I make my own EV olive oil and work at a lovely winery doing their tours (this is my 9th year!), which I love, though I sometimes get paid in wine.
