March 11, 2022 Jacquiline Delozier

Not just for retirees and theme park enthusiasts, the Sunshine State offers beautiful beaches, pristine diving conditions, and sizzling nightlife. Salsa the night away in a smokin’ hot Miami club, or swing away at one of Kissimmee’s many premium golf courses. An airboat tour of the Everglades is an unforgettable adventure – just look out for alligators! For the risk-averse, a lazy day spent on the soft sands of an Emerald Coast beach is as rejuvenating as a spa treatment.

Stetson Mansion

Stetson Mansion is a spectacular Victorian mansion built for famed hat maker and philanthropist John B Stetson in 1886. Situated right between Orlando and Daytona in DeLand makes it convenient for all visiting the central Florida area. This is Florida's first luxury estate and houses some of the most beautiful and intricate parquet floors in the world. The mansion is one of the first homes in the world to be designed and built with Edison electricity. The owners have painstakingly renovated every square inch of the 10,000 sq foot masterpiece while incorporating today's modern conveniences. All this was done without compromising the architectural or historical integrity. Every room on every one of the three floors is magnificently decorated and every room features a different style floor and window design There is Reservations are required $20-$30 per person and children are $15. Payment is cash at the door and we do charge applicable sales tax. See you at the Mansion!!

Had the pleasure of touring the Stetson Mansion, today (Jan4th, 2019), amazing architecture, the decadent Christmas Decorations, with thought to every detail and theme, loved all the nativity sets, and particularly appreciated the salute to our Military, Veterans and Families..and last but not least our tour guide Sue, and greatly appreciated her love and knowledge, not only of the home, the Stetson Family, but the very generous current owners..Don't Miss it!

Took the free trolley from South Beach to this lovely church. It was the first Catholic Church on Miami Beach. The full choir provided the music which made it very special. Although a tourist, I felt very welcomed. Afterwards there were refreshments.

Also check reviews of "The Old Spanish Monastery" as this site is known. This is a contemplative and gorgeous setting with gardens and an amazingly completely reconstructed cloister of an 11th C monastery from Sacramenia, Spain. The original moanstery was occupied by Cistercian monks until the property was converted to a granary in 1830 during a period of political upheaval. Today, it is restored to its original splendor and totally worthy of a 'pilgrimage' by anyone interested in medieval architecture.

Art Deco Historic District

An area of Miami Beach noted for its concentration of over 800 Art Deco buildings all within one square mile. Consider joining the walking tour which takes you past the white- and pastel-colored stucco buildings beautifully restored to their former splendor thanks to the Miami Design Preservation League.

I flew in from SoCal which has quite a bit of Art Deco in its own right, especially in and around Los Angeles, and Miami has an absolute treasure trove of architectural gems to admire! The area is also pretty clean, easily walkable and for those into the nightlife aspect, the bars/clubs are hoppin' well after dark. Miami has a very distinct brand of Art Deco that differs from the more grandiose buildings in places like NYC (think Chrysler Building), Detroit (think Guardian Building) and LA (think Eastern Columbia Building). The beauty in these smaller structures lie in the subtle pastel colors of the facades, the sleek, aerodynamic linework, and the sheer extravagance of their neon lights at night. I highly recommend visiting during the day and night because each visit gives you a different experience. Definitely a lovely place.

The Oldest House Museum & Garden

The Oldest House in South Florida is located at 322 Duval Street in Key West. The house and gardens are open to the public from 10 am to 4 pm every day except Tuesday and Wednesday. Staff and volunteering docents are available to provide historical information about the house and family, and to answer questions. The house features family portraits and original furnishings, as well as other period pieces, ship models, and documents telling the story of old Key West. In the rear of the house is a spacious, peaceful garden, where benches invite you to sit and reflect. There, you will see the only surviving Cook House in South Florida.

I love history and I have always been fascinated by the history of Key West in particular - such a strange and sordid past! I really liked that this museum was free and it was so interesting to learn about what life was like back then. We even saw the captains logs from his time on ship!

Solomon's Castle

Visit the home, galleries and workshop of internationally renowned artist Howard Solomon. Tour the Castle, walk our beautiful nature trails and enjoy a delightful lunch at the Boat in the Moat Restaurant. Spend the day!

Reviewed By VickieJ03 - Columbus, United States

Amazing place to visit! This is about much more than visiting Solomon's Castle. It is all about seeing the amazing talent, imagination and sense of humor this man had. After talking with multiple employees, who are either family members or close family friends, it is obvious that Howard Solomon was a unique and wonderful man. There are two tours available, one of the castle and one of the auto, planes and trains exhibit. We participated in and enjoyed both. Lunch at the Boat in the Moat was reasonably priced, scrumptious and plentiful. We even took a walk on the nature trail. Time spent on this property was relaxing and serene. We will most likely return and bring friends. PS: It is my thought that the folks who gave poor reviews simply did not have much appreciation for this type of art and creativity. It is not the type of castle that is full of fine furniture and beautiful china. It is a castle that was family home full of love and creativity in a peaceful country setting.

Frank Lloyd Wright at Florida Southern College

Daily tours available highlighting this truly unique collection of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture at Florida Southern College.

Reviewed By Roamingbears - St. Petersburg, United States

Unexpectedly fabulous campus hidden in Central Florida with numerous gems of FLW architecture including one building built a few years ago using his plans. Great tour (we got multiple discounts by reserving tour space online and by being old people) conducted by a knowledgeable docent. Disappointed that the main chapel was closed for renovations to be completed at the end of June but it is open to the public without a tour so we can catch that next time in Lakeland. We chose the basic tour which covers lots of ground, literally, so be prepared!
