It was one of the most important Mayan cities in the late preclassic which is characterized by its monumentality when built, this can be clearly seen in one of the pyramids of the site and the largest in the Mayan civilization, the great Pyramid "La Danta" surrounded by a green sea of dense and virgin forest at the four cardinal points. Our Nun Bak Trek to the Mirador is 5 to 6 days to visit Tintal, La Muerta, La Florida, Wakná, Nakbé and one of the most important and well-known cities in the history of the great Mayan civilization, El Mirador. We will walk in the middle of the Jungle for 6 to 9 hours a day along a path mostly without heights or mountains since we are at 180 meters above sea level, a trek suitable for all audiences with resistance to walking more than 10 kilometers a day at a moderate pace. We had a multi day trek with Nelson in the Guatamalan jungle. He is so pasionated about his culture and speaks about it with enthousiasm. He is open for questions, which makes it possible to learn so much more about the rich history of the Mayans and Guatamalan life in 2020. He is actively studying current findings by local archeologists, showing his love for the job and wonderull herritage, making sure he knows his stuff. Nelson is so much fun, speaks English very well and you can see him enjoy every bit of culture and nature just as much as the tourists. He will make your trip fantastic! We stayed at Barcelo hotel in Guatemala City. We took hotel taxi and did the Chichicastenango market and Lake Atitlan in one day. It is a long drive but there is plenty to watch and see on the way. We loved the people, colors, hand made artifacts and food in the market. We stopped at Santo Tomas Church in the market. We then drove down to Solola, saw local men in wonderful costumes on the way. We took a trip over lake Atitlan with public boat. Lake Atitlan surrounded by mountains and volcanoes has seen generations of mayans and local tribes live, grow and evolve, like a mother providing to her children. As a bonus our driver Mario took us to Iximché ruins on the way back from the lake. We left around 6:45 and we were back by 7pm in our hotel. We absolutely enjoyed the trip, these places show soul of Guatemala, do not miss them. Highly recommend our driver Mario Xicará - 502 5853 3071, taxi # 796 in Zone 9 of Guatemala City (marioxicará[email protected]). He is reliable and trustworthy.
5. Semuc Chapey & Kamba Caves 3 days 2 nights
The mystical caves of K'anba are formed by 90% water and you can climb by rope resisting a huge waterfall. It is an unforgettable experience. Mystical cave that invites you to venture into the Heart of Mother Earth, open to the public since 2002, where 90% is water, where you can take walks in different water levels, swim in the internal pools, climb a waterfall with rope receiving the force of the water on the whole body or on its side with a ladder observing its fascinating and capricious rock formations sculpted by the hand of Mother Nature.
