Nice calm place to rest a bit when you are traveling to Trincomalee. Enough spaces are there to park vehicles. No shops nearby. So you have to enjoy what you have taken with you. View is awesome either side of the dam. Specially early mornings and late evenings.

This lagoon is an extensive body of brackish water best seen and enjoyed by doing a boat tour that will give access to most of the interior pockets. Boat tours of about one hour duration were available from the Batticaloa light house precinct. Operator was using 8 seater fishing boat style boats and in January 2019 I was given a quote for Rs.4000/- for a tour of the lagoon that would cover the area beyond Kallady bridge, Dutch fort, Gandhi park, Eco park and sand islands of the lagoon. Sailing close to the mouth of the estuary was also included. In the lagoon there were different types of fishing going on, some on small catamaran boats, some throwing nets etc., but I failed to see a large fish being caught by anyone. During the day the water movement was towards the sea and the area close to Kallady bridge was very wavy and rough. I was told that by evening when the tide is up the flow moves towards the opposite direction. It was a very interesting natural set up and this lagoon exploration was some thing to remember for a few years.
