I first noticed this market when my wife and I attended a service at the Church of Rapa Nui. A couple of days later, my wife and I visited this market to check out their wares. There are multiple stalls which sell primarily souvenir type items. These include assorted Moai figures, shirts, t-shirts, jewelry and a variety of other items. I like the fact that this market is run by local folks who create or directly sell the items. As a result, the prices were better than the items sold at the various Moai sites we visited. In addition, they had a much wider variety of items for sale. All of the women who ran the stalls we visited were very friendly and helpful. My recommendation is to try and patronize the vendors at the sites with the Rapa Nui National Park, but also try and visit Mercado Artesanal if you want to purchase additional mementos of your time on Easter Island.
