Things to do in Dallas, Texas (TX): The Best Nature & Parks

August 25, 2021 Marissa Gamble

You may have all heard that everything is bigger in Texas. Well, Dallas does its best to fulfill that promise. You'll find several museums with vast art collections and fascinating specialty museums like The Sixth Floor Museum/Texas School Book Depository, which, though small in size, offers an immense amount of information about the assassination of John F. Kennedy. And of course, visit a local steakhouse for a terrific (and enormous) meal.

Dallas’ “Central Park” is operated by a Conservancy, the Turtle Creek Consurvancy, just as is Central Park in New York City, and both parks have benefited hugely. Being situated in Dallas along the western edge of “Uptown” at the intersection of Lemon Avenue and Turtle Turtle Creek Blv. and stretching up both sides of Turtle Creek the new Parks Board approved name is not surprisingly - Turtle Creek Park. It is a don’t miss! The park has benefitted for expensive landscape improvement including restoration of WPA features including the massive restoration of the 1938 community center that is a 5/8ths replica of Arlington House in Arlington Cemetary in Washington DC. This wonderful green stretch of park land is the Crown Jewel Of Dallas Parks.

A privately owned park, give the owner (Select Salon) a call and walk in with their blessing. Loads of quirky statues to check out and enjoy, great for photos or just sitting and enjoying the quiet.

Turtle Creek Park

Just north of downtown, this area is popular with runners, many of whom begin from the nearby YMCA.

Turtle creek is an oasis for people who know where to go and what to look for. You can still see young boys fishing together, couples picnicking and runners traipsing through from early morning to twilight. There is plenty of parking, shade and quiet. Early seasons of Dallas (TV show) shot scenes in the park area. Lot so art (bronze statues) can be seen along well manicured lawn areas. It beats Katy Trail by far.
