If you traveling between Moscow and St Petersburg and would like to get there in short 3,5 h and with comfort and great service then book high speed train Sapsan First Class car (#1). I take it almost every time I travel there. It offers very comfortable chairs , comparably to business class in airplanes, entertainment system, pillow and blanket, great amenities kit with sleepers and good meal , while you are traveling at 250 km/h. I usually book my tickets on their direct website and can easily select my seats and most of the time preorder my vegetarian meals. You don’t have to print your ticket, conductor will find you on their electronic list per your passport. Single seats in this car swivels, so you are always facing forward when traveling. Each seat in this car has an individual table in their armrest. Service is wonderful always and I always get help with luggage. Also, I called before we arrived and booked a baggage assistance come inside the car to get my luggage! I highly recommend you to travel this way! Great way to see and experience Russia.

We upgraded to grand class for our trip from Moscow to St Petersburg on the overnight train, which has en-suite facilities. We boarded at 2230 and shown to our cabin, which was small with pull out beds, but very charming. A steward came and took our breakfast order for the next morning (eggs benedict, tea, apple strudel, and fruit). The train left exactly on time at 2340. It was very exciting travelling at night in a sleeper, but too excited to get much sleep. Breakfast arrived in our cabin at precisely 0730 as we had requested, and the train arrived in St Petersburg an hour later - bang on time. The journey takes about 9 hours, the overnight train goes a lot slower than day time trains, to give you chance to get a decent sleep. But who needs it. Superb experience.

I use this railroad more to while away my leisure time than for business. 'Coz I'm retired. Last time I did it was in December. Together with my friends from Paris (French). I lived in that city for four years and know very well how reprehensible this means of transportation is there. They were shocked. Such state-of-the-art thingy in Moscow? Yes, my dear! By many standards Russian capital is far ahead of the reality you live in. The railway is interconnected with metro to such an extent that you pay just once, irrespective of which network you use or whether you make a change. The price for a one-way ticket is ridiculous - 40 roubles (half a Dollar, forty British pence). Envy, envy! Navigation is bilingual - in Russian and in English - both as signs and verbal (announcements in cars). Change to subway and vice versa is usually smooth with an exception of several cases when you have to walk in the streets. But these are quite rare. Recommended! Modern, comfy, cozy, reliable.
