Bcnkitchen

bcnKITCHEN is a local cooking school, we are passionate about food and our objective is to share that passion with you! We have two kitchens, one in the charming Born district and the other in the Boqueria market building, all of the ingredients we use come from the market that you will be visiting with our chef. Once you arrive back at our cooking school, wine in one hand apron in the other, it’s time to start cooking! After a couple of hours of action you’ll sit amidst the dishes you have prepared with the satisfaction of having prepared a Spanish feast!

Myself, my teenage daughter and her friend all spent an amazing four hours with Amelia (and 8 others) at BCN Kitchen in El Born cooking a range of Spanish dishes and then having a sit down meal together as a group. We started off with a group trip to the local market which is much more authentic (and reasonably priced!) than La Boqueria and Amelia talked us through how to choose good ingredients, especially fish. Lots of us bought saffron to take home as it is very inexpensive in Spain and some of us bought local cheeses and meats as well (vacuum-packed means they don't have to be refrigerated). When we returned to BCN kitchen, everyone got involved in the slicing, dicing and cooking and Amelia was very good at ensuring we all had jobs to do. No one stood around bored and every step of the cooking process was explained for each of the dishes (we will be emailed the recipes later). Although one might imagine chaos with 11 of us in the kitchen, it was a smooth operation in a spacious area and everyone in the group (singles, couples and families ranging in age from 11-about 55) was friendly and very social. Wine and water were provided and added to the congenial environment. We prepared gazpacho, Spanish tortillas, tomato bread, paella and creme Catalan...to finish off! After about 2 hours of cooking, we sat down to eat together and what an amazing meal we had! I have no doubt that everyone involved had a wonderful time. Amelia was the perfect hostess and teacher and we all left with lots of new ideas for Spanish cooking, full bellies and smiles on our faces.

Artcava

What? You haven´t heard of Artcava? Ok, so we may not be the most well known winery in the world, nor did we hire an internationally famous architect to design a mind-boggling modernist building. Our cava has never won prizes and most people have never even heard of us. We like to say we are the best kept secret in the Penedes region. So you are probably wondering what Artcava is. We are a small, charming winery located in one of the most important wine regions in Europe, The Penedes ( a mere 40 minutes from Barcelona). We make a modest 15,000 bottles of quality artisan cava a year with our own hands, adding nothing, no chemicals, no funny business, only love. Who are we and how did we begin? We are three partners here at Artcava: Eric, the winemaker and wine taster; Ignasi, the one who looks after the business side of things (someone has to), both are in their early thirties; and Ramon, the foodie, a bit more than early thirties ( we call him the Gran Reserve).

Thank you for a great experience and finally understanding the different types of cava. Ramon was a great guide and we also enjoyed meeting LM aka Last Monkey ???? very easy to reach by train from central Barcelona. Really felt like I was somewhere special.

We had an amazing time at Marta's apartment learning how to prepare delicious and authentic paella! Everyone in the group of 12 had at least one job so we all felt involved in the process and no one left hungry. Her apartment was cozy and eating dinner on the balcony was a wonderful way to spend an evening on vacation. Would recommend to anyone visiting Barcelona who is interested in an authentic and unforgettable experience!
