Montreal beckons travelers with its French charm and booming cultural landscape. In Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario is a vision of Frank Gehry architecture and national artistic treasures. The gleaming mountain ranges of Banff set a stunning backdrop for an exploration of the Canadian Rockies.

Covert Farms Family Estate

Established in 1959, Covert Farms Family Estate Winery is located in Oliver, BC on 650 acres of benchland. Winemaker Gene Covert is a 3rd generation farmer who worked this land with his father and grandfather. Our certified organic estate vineyards are influenced by the majestic McIntyre Bluff and managed with biodynamic practices. We craft our estate wines with minimal intervention, using natural fermentation when possible to focus on vineyard and fruit. Our white wines display purity of fruit and a crisp natural acidity coveted by growers, and low yields result in terroir-focused artisan reds that are luscious and age-worthy. Those who love recreation dually appreciate our location at the gateway to the iconic Okanagan landmark McIntyre Bluff, which makes a great place to picnic, bike ride or hike. Secrest Organics at Covert Farms operates our seasonal fruit & vegetable stand, and visitors can get their hands dirty in the u-pick section - selecting ripe produce under the summer sun.

Really beautiful family winery and farm. The Epicurean grand reserve tasting was fantastic - the host was great at explaining the wines and the background and philosophy of the organic farm. She also gave us time to enjoy the wines and didn't rush us at all. The charcuterie board that came with the tasting was really great, with local foods and fresh items from the farm. The wines were a little more expensive than some wineries, but were really interesting and unique. We were so happy that they also have a kids farm tour and tasting as well - our kids enjoyed this winery so much more than other ones with no kids' activities! It made for a much more enjoyable tasting for the adults to have the kids busy.

Nature's Bounty

Nature's Bounty is a picturesque orchard with more than 20 varieties of high-quality apples, located on the rolling hills of the Oak Ridges Moraine near Port Perry, Ontario. The farm also grows pumpkins, squash and sunflowers, and is home to a flock of sheep and one friendly llama. Every fall, families return to Nature's Bounty for its gorgeous scenery, crisp and delicious apples, and taste of country life. Enjoy the tradition of picking your own apples, sipping cider, and wandering the orchard this fall.

The drive to the farm was beautiful with the changing leaves, a little bumpy closer to the farm. Went last year and it was awesome, this year was a little different but awesome as well. Purchased tickets in advance, that definitely reduced the crowds. The orchid is well maintain, farm animals are well taken care of, and apples were large. You can feed the animals (sheep) with your apple cores. Highly recommend as a family activity, kids have lots of space to run around. My 3year old and I had a fun time. Apple picking here will be a family tradition.

Overall the tour couldn’t have been better! In his tour around his sugar farm, Tom explained us in detail the entire production of maple syrup, most important things to remember, short maple history lessons included ;) The tour ends with an insight in his valuable antique collections and a nice and delicious little maple products tasting. What we really liked about the tour was the authenticity of everything (it is not one of the farms just created for tourists) and the way Tom is giving the tour by integrating everyone, making some jokes etc. You can feel he’s passionate about the topic ;) We feel confident to be able to open our very own maple farm now :D Thanks Sugarbush Tom, great experience, we recommend it to all our friends! We go to the apple rest and pumpkin patch, so fun, riding the tracker to pick a pumpkin or apples. So much for the kids to do from petting and feeding animals to climbing and sliding. Lunch in the cafe is always good, with homemade apple juice, pies soups and more. They also have a market and sell their produce.

You can wander around and visit the goats, view the making and packaging process. There are cheese and other items available for sale from the tasting room. An unexpected surprise was a really good quality lunch with a selection of sandwiches, pizza and soup. Enjoy a day in the country. The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada is a lifelong home to over 70 donkeys, mules and hinnies that have been abused, neglected or are no longer wanted. We recently relocated the Long Ears Boutique so it is now closer to the parking lot. It is here that you will receive your safety talk before entering the donkeys world. Each year we strive to improve access to the animals and property. Two accessible parking spaces have been relocated to provide easier access to the Boutique and safety talk. In the new improved Boutique you can now use your debit cards to purchase your donkey memorbilia and cold drinks. All proceeds from the Boutique go to the care of the donkeys.Don't forget to visit the new Donkey Gallery where you will find the donkey profiles. If you decide you want to help care for the donkeys, you can fill out a sponsorship form for a minimum of $50/year. You can also give as a gift to someone who has everything. The interactive Learning Centre has lots of information for all ages...everything from books to bones. See how we treat an abscessed hoof. Find out what a slipper hoof is. Learn what food is best for donkeys. Hint: All hay is not created equal. From the Learning Centre pass through the barnyard gate where you can interact with the donkeys who love a good brush and scratch behind the ears.Your are invited to listen to one of three scheduled donkey talks. Learn about the challenges donkeys face in North America. Then make your way down to the century old barn that has been converted into the Treatment Centre and visit the main herd up at the new Donkey House....and don't forget to greet the mules before you make your way to the picnic area overlooking the pond.Finish up your day with a walk along the trails in the wetlands and woodlands.

I go to the Donkey Sanctuary regularly and have been a hands on volunteer in past years. Now I continue to donate to this wonderful sanctuary where there is top notch care for these amazing animals, too many of which have endured bad treatment in the past. I encourage people to go and be educated about these endearing creatures. I have attended the sanctuary on my own, with friends and with groups. The one thing that bothered me was that strollers were not allowed inside the sanctuary which makes it difficult for families with babies and young children. Having to carry them around in hot weather is very tiring.
