Things to do in Bordeaux, Nouvelle-Aquitaine: The Best Wineries & Vineyards

August 2, 2021 Emerita Lamoureux

After many years of hard work, the "Sleeping Beauty" has awoken from its slumber. The city is beautifully restored and has an ultra-modern public transport system. The “Port of the Moon” is also now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Stone Bridge, with its 17 arches, crosses the Garonne, offering pedestrians a lovely view over the docks and harbor. Take a stroll through old Bordeaux in the Triangle d'Or and stop at Place des Quinconces, France’s largest public square. The city of Bordeaux is an ideal base for exploring the greater wine region’s unforgettable sights and tastes.

Chateau Haut-Marbuzet - Henri Duboscq

Founded in 1848 following the division of the Mac Carthy estate, Château Haut-Marbuzet began its rise to glory in 1952, when Hervé Dubosq purchased it as a life annuity. He brought the vineyard back to life and crafted a very personal, indivdual wine, which immediately appealed to a great number of connoisseurs. His son Henri joined him in 1962, to support him in achieving the only objective dear to the Duboscq family, namely the"Glory of Haut- Marbuzet".Qualitatively speaking, Haut-Marbuzet has become an undisputed benchmark within the Saint-Estèphe appellation.

We visited the Naked Vigneron yesterday for a birthday celebration, and what a celebration it was. We received the warmest welcome from David, had a wander round the grounds and then sat down to one of the most memorable lunches ever. The setting is gorgeous, shady and cool. The food was amazing, each course accompanied by Naked Vigneron wines which you could buy to take home if you wanted. Three vegetarians were catered for superbly which was very welcome. David's enthusiasm and energy about his vines, and Amanda's culinary skills made this a wonderful experience. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Chateau Luchey-Halde

Welcome to Château Luchey-Halde, "the most urban château" in Bordeaux! It went from a wine property in the 19th century, to an army training ground in the 20 th century, and was bought at the end of the 20th century by a school of agricultural engeneering, who recreated completely a wine property, making it one of the highest performing in Bordeaux. We made the appointment months before we went, the response from Haut Brion was fast and positive despite we had made changes several times. We appreciated they accepted us with young children. The tour include watching a video about the historyvof Chateau, Wine making process and tasting of their second wine. The visit lasted for one hour.
