Things to do in Bora Bora, Society Islands: The Best Self-Guided Tours & Rentals

June 17, 2021 Darleen Reid

Turquoise lagoons, soft white sands, and deep tangerine sunsets set the scene for romance on the island so nice they named it twice. Mingle with tropical fish as you flutter around Coral Gardens or Tupitipiti Point, or relax in a self-driving tour as you take in beautiful views of the once-volcanic Mount Otemanu. At the Lagoonarium you can watch shark feedings and swim with turtles. Cap it all off with a succulent meal at one of the island’s fine French restaurants, then sip a tropical cocktail under the stars.

Alexis was wonderful and helped transport us from our dock to St.Regis resort for our overeager bungalow evening. We tendered in from our Windstar cruise, he picked us up (we arrived early and he was already there waiting), and he gave us local info as we took the trip to the other side of the island. When we come back, we’ll use him for snorkel trips to see manta rays. He’s very professional with a casual attitude. 10/10.

This was such an amazing activity that is truly a once in a lifetime experience for me and my husband. Once you are underwater it's beyond peaceful & so fun to see fish swimming all around you. The two instructors were unbelievably kind & knowledgeable. I would highly highly recommend this activity to anyone traveling to Bora Bora!

This little electric vehicle was fun and convenient. Top speed of this vehicle was 47km/h, which was fine because most of the main road around Bora Bora is under 40km/h. there was only two short areas that I recall that were posted 60km/h. There were a few downsides to this vehicle though. 1. It has no door windows. So if it rains you can get a little wet or if you get in it after it has rained the seats will be full of water. We always just put a towel on the seats. 2. This little vehicle does not have much climbing power. So if you want to explore some of the back roads that go up the steep roads of the inner island, you might not make it up some of them. 3. The battery life is good for the half and full day rentals, but depending on how much you use it during the 24hr rental it could run out of power. The next day when we returned our 24hr rental. The battery indicator on the dash went to zero as we were returning it to the Avis rental office and we barley made it. The good news is that the Avis rental agent told us that if the battery gets low from using the vehicle a lot during the day, that we could exchange it for a fully charged one before they close at 5:00pm.
