This is yet another site which I am amazed that you do not yet have a listing for!!!! It is a 10th c. Byzantine Monastery with the "remains" of "Holy Luke"., a great healer of the 10th c. which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and etc., etc. When you list it on your site, I will write a review of a visit here (which was astounding!!)
Beautiful, peaceful monastery. It's not as opulent as some of the monasteries in Meteora, but still worth visiting. Don't miss the little gift shop - they sell the best olive oil made using the olives from the monastery's own olive orchard.

The village was the site of a notorious massacre by the Waffen SS on 10th June, 1944. There had been some Greek resistance in the area, including an ambush of a German column, but there was no direct link with the village. Nevertheless 218 villagers, men women and children were slaughtered as an act of reprisal. It was only in the 1980’s that a powerful memorial to the dead was put in place on the hill above the village. It’s signposted and possible to either walk or drive up to see it – not to be missed, a powerful evocation of the horrors of war. Tip: combine a visit to Distomo with a visit to the nearby monastery of Hosios Loukas. Second tip: if you are moved by this place, then try to get across the Gulf of Corinth to Kalavryta so as to visit another massacre site.
