Things to do in Bilbao, Basque Country: The Best Cultural Tours

April 24, 2022 Kiesha Cripe

Travelers generally come to Bilbao to see the Guggenheim—some for the art inside, but many for the amazing building itself. The Fine Arts Museum and the Basque Museum may not have been designed by Frank Gehry, but are worth a visit, and you can catch international opera stars at the Palacio Euskalduna.

Iker gave a virtual presentation via Internet of his Bilbao and Guggenheim Museum Private tour. It was very interesting to get to know this amazing city and Iker showed a lot of impressing photos so that everybody could perfectly imagine the tour. At the same time, he answered a lot of individual questions, showing a very good knowledge of art, the city's history, food etc. All in all, we got a vivid image of Bilbao and will book him as soon as we will be able to visit this city for real.

The medieval flavor of Olite Castle makes it a unique experience even for the seasoned traveler. Discovering Pamplona, with its quaint old quarter and city walls, and all the spots where the crazy and wild happens during the San Fermin festivities: the running of the bulls' path through the streets, the town hall square where the 'chupinazo' (kick off of the festivities) takes place,... and many more!

This day tour allowed us to see the most of San Sebastian and Basque Coast in one day. There were a lot of incredible sights. We had only one day to visit the Basque Country and we were really satisfied with this tour. Our tour guide Josu really helped us make the most of it. The food was really good with lot of pintxos options to choose and different wines to pair with the food. I would highly recommend txakoli local wine. It was greatt day with a great guide.

Although it was a rainy & windy day and only the two of us on this tour we thoroughly enjoyed. Gorka our tour guide was very knowledgable about everything. The places we visited were beautiful and just imagined them in summer with the sun shining. The chocolate tasting was great the quality of the cocoa shone through. I would definitely recommend this trip I just wished it was better weather.

Getxo is one of the most attractive and striking spaces in Greater Bilbao, a town in movement that lives facing the sea. Getxo is one of those municipalities that offers us everything we need to know the history and culture of Euskal Herria, the essence of the Basque people. The tour begins at the Bizkaia Bridge, affectionately Hanging Bridge. A colossus, which in addition to being one of the most emblematic buildings in Euskal Herria, represents the most comfortable and practical way to cross the estuary to reach the neighboring towns of Santurtzi or Portugalete. Declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco similar to the Eiffel Tower and that continues to function as such since 1890. At the end, the Old Port, the old fishing village. A very picturesque place, where Bizkaians gather to enjoy friends and gastronomy in summer. The visit ends in the most Bilbao style, we go for pintxos !! (pintxo-pot included in the tour). Pintxo is the 5th essence, a bite-sized aperitif.

Although it's an up and down route, the walking surface is very good. The difficulty is the relatively steep assent and desent. Remember to pace yourself, don't get out of breath. The views are surpurb, take time to take photos. Enjoy the walk knowing you are strengthening your muscles, becoming fitter, and, may be improving your weight.
