The Bay of Plenty (Māori: Te Moana-a-Toi) is a large bight in the northern coast of New Zealand's North Island. It stretches from the Coromandel Peninsula in the west to Cape Runaway in the east, a wide stretch of some 259 km of open coastline. The Bay of Plenty Region is situated around this body of water, also incorporating several large islands in the bay. The bay was named by James Cook after he noticed the abundant food supplies at several Māori villages there, in stark contrast to the earlier observations he had made in Poverty Bay.

We pick up from your accommodation and fly or drive to the multiple rivers, streams and lakes with in an hour of Rotorua City. We offer bike hire, shuttle service and budget accommodation alongside the Motu Trails one of NZCT's. Suitable for all ages hire a bike and ride the Dunes Trail. This 22klm return ride hugs the Pacific Ocean with views of the East Cape and beyond. For the more adventurous hire a MTB, take the shuttle and ride 2 hrs downhill through the bush clad Pakihi Track.

We booked a shuttle with Ngaio from Motu Trails Ltd with short notice and she was very accommodating. The van was a nice modern unit and we had a good trip up to the start. The Pakihi Trail is downhill for most of the way and the scenery was spectacular. What a great day out!

Lose yourself in our challenging timber maze built in 1982. Dont be fooled, it's harder than it looks! Relaxing courtyard with lawn games, petting zoo, onsite barista coffee and superb range of NZ made refreshments.

This place was recommended as a ‘must see’ and we certainly weren’t disappointed. How lucky to have a warm creek complete with small waterfalls to relax in for free! The only thing I found annoying was the amount of rubbish and clothing visitors had left behind. Really disrespectful behaviour I thought for the unique and free experience they had.

The track is two fold and can be done quite separately although we chose to combine the two for a compete experience. There a loop track that is relatively easy with some uphill walking complete with many story boards along the way explaining the trees, ferns, birds, pests and conservation groups conducting work on the mountain. The Jubilee track is 2.5km hike to the top and the same distance back down. The information boards at the bottom are quite clear, due to the growth of the bush there is no view from the top. We saw family groups on both tracks. There are rudimentary DOC compost toilets about 100 metres into the walk.
