Arrived and booked for the Lion walk after the safari in good time and the walk was arranged for 13.00. The safari it’s self was really quick and all the animals there were seen within the first 30 mins at the man made watering holes. The rest of the time was just riding about in the dust, A word of warning please make sure you have a scarf to cover your nose and mouth, We arrived back at reception to be told we would be called for the lion walk. No one came. Our guide went to see them and came back to us to inform us that it would not be taking place until 2.30pm or afterwards or not at all. Their reason was that a large coach load had taken our place. I was really upset as it was my birthday and the walk with the lions was a very special present. Due to my age and health status I know I shall never have a another opportunity to do it. Our guide even pleaded with the reception staff to just let me go to no avail. I was gutted and even back in the UK I am still.

The South Gambia-tour is for people who are interested in seeing something more than the tourist areas. The Tanji Fishing Center is one of the major fishing communities in the Gambia and the Paradise Beach in Sanyang is a beautiful and peaceful place.

Overall, I had an excellent experience with Jimmy. He picked me up from Banjul airport at 1am as planned and dropped me off at my hotel. In addition to the above, I was looking for a tour guide to show me around Banjul and Jimmy was excellent. He was able to plan the Banjul itinerary around my time/availability with enough flexibility. He picked me up from the hotel and dropped me off at the end of the tour. Jimmy is very friendly and professional. I highly recommend this tour! 10/10.

It was hard to find an organisation that makes tours both through Senegal and Gambia. Triptours did a good job, but at the high end of the price rage for relatively cheap locations, unlike we are used to travelling in Asian countries. Realise that your guide should be bi-lingual (French and English) if you want to see both countries. The roads are surprisingly good, so your car can easily drive 100km/h. That is the good news. The bad news is that there is not much to see or do. And if you are at a location like Georgetown or Kuntaur, these are backwaters in the heat with minimal attractions. Anyhow, it was an interesting trip in an old (>12 years) car without airco. The guide, Alpha, was knowledgeable, but more up to date with Senegal than with Gambia. In general, all guides we have seen are more socialising than in Asia. They will f.i. share your meals. Make sure that you check Triptours' advise regarding hotels, you might find better alternatives, such as Sindola Safari Lodge (advisable) and Kinkeliba lodge in Mar Lodj. We finished in Mar Lodj, waiting for a flight out due to the corona crisis. Triptours proved helpful with information, but in the end we escaped with our regular flight after an interesting two weeks.

Me and my friend went on this tour with Jimmy - and we loved it. We had a tight schedule that day, and Jimmy made sure that we got to see the things we wanted to. He's a good guide and has a lot of knowledge about the country. Would 10/10 recommend this tour!
