Things to do in Austria, Austria: The Best Historic Walking Areas

July 21, 2021 Margarita Chappel

As home to majestic mountains, opulent palaces, and high culture, Austria's attractions are classically sumptuous and enduring. But beyond the waltzes, the strudels, the alpine summits, and Habsburg architecture, its modern cities are proof of just how easily Austria combines the contemporary with the historic.

We were blessed with a warm sunny afternoon to enjoy this beautiful Vienna landmark. We took in all the stunning gardens, fountains large and small, and then the leisurely stroll up the hill to the Gloriette, The effort to reach the top of the hill was rewarded with breathtaking views of the Schonbrunn Palace and city beyond. What an enjoyable afternoon!

Great views at the end of the street from any stage of the street of the mountains, lots of shops and restaurants, Konditorei's coffee bars, it even has a Hard Rock Café, friendly people, friendly shops, one of the nicest shopping areas in Europe. It has something for everyone, simply has to be done.

Rattenberg - Medieval pedestrian zone

Reviewed By 524mauriceg - Trowbridge, United Kingdom

The centre of this venue is a pedestrian zone and is said to be one of the oldest villages in the Tyrol. It's a lovely place for a gentle walk to browse the local shops and more particularly shops where you can see glass cutting etc. and sample Schnapps offerings. The architecture like most places in the area is worth a look, and the lack of traffic makes Rattenberg a relaxing place for a drink or perhaps a meal. Recommended
