Things to do in Austin, Texas (TX): The Best Nightlife

July 6, 2021 Carley Gatson

Every year thousands of hipsters, groupies, and die-hard fans flock to Austin for the annual South by Southwest festival, which has catapulted the Texas city up the must-visit charts for many travelers. The sandstone Capitol building is symbolic of the Lone Star State’s "bigger is better" mentality, featuring a gorgeous whispering gallery rotunda and 22 acres of grounds. Cool off with a dip in Barton Springs, a huge natural limestone pool that’s fed by underground sources.

This is a great place to listen to local music. If you are lucky enough to catch James McMurtry when he is in town to play a midnight show during the week, I highly suggest a visit. The beverages are cold and the service is friendly. The acoustics are good and comfortable area.

Normally if a place doesn't have a Jukebox it's not much of a place. But, The Saxon in Austin is the exceptional exception. The sound there, no matter where you are is of recording studio quality. The bands all sound great and the atmosphere is such you almost feel like you're on the stage with them. The staff acts like family with genuine smiles, and fantastic service. The cover charge is well worth the priceless admission. If you go you'll be back. I will.

Had a great meal here in this iconic venue. After the food we went into the dance hall and it was great to listen to the music and watch everyone doing the Texan two step - and having a go ourselves! A really friendly and authentic venue.
