Muzeul Municipal Campulung Muscel

The Municipal Museum has four sections: History - from ancient to contemporanity, Ethnography located in the oldest house in the city - 1735, Mateias Mausoluem - dedicated to those who fight and died in First World War and George Topirceanu Memorial House - one of the most important romanian poet, each located in different locations. An important modern art collection can also be admired in History side.

The museum is hosted by an original boyar mansion from the XVII century and is really a must visit if you travel to Campulung. They have a beautiful collection of folk art objects from amazing popular/folk costumes specific for Muscel region (it is said there are the most beautiful in the country being so the reason they werethe mansion itself worth a visit. preferred by Queen Maria), potery and other folk objects.

The place is beautiful and green. Sadly, because of the Covid pandemic, you can't visit the museum. You can visit the village museum. It is beautiful and has a loooot of houses from different regions. It also has equestrian lessons..but again, because of the pandemic, they are not available.

Pitesti Prison Memorial

The site of the infamous political prison of Pitesti, where over 600 students were tortured by the communists between 1949-1951. Pitesti Prison was buil in 1941 and it functioned as a prison until 1977. During its functioning, thousands of political prisoners were brought here. From 1949 until August 1951, the penitenciary housed the most violent action in the communist world - Pitesti Phenomenon.

You have to visit it. It is one of the few memorials in the country about communist prisons and is the place where the most terrible actions of re-education of detainees took place. And has the best organized exhibition about what happened in Romania.
