Botanical Garden Agadaki Estate

Reviewed By ANSGr

Newly opened this year, the Botanical Gardens have sought to gather together the flowers and plants native to Andros. Tucked off a narrow road which is clearly signposted from the Apoikia - Chora main road, the gardens are absolutely charming although suffering a little from the recent heat wave on the Island. We were welcomed at the entrance and shown into the gallery showing the works of the Life-Andros Park project. Details are presented in Greek and English. We were then shown around the gardens themselves with explanations of names of plants (Latin names are shown as are the local, Greek names but identifying some plants by their English names was sometimes a little difficult, next time we might take a plant dictionary!) There is still development underway but that in no way detracts from the experience, indeed it has made us keen to go back. On a very hot day, it was a pleasure to wander in the shade of the trees and hear about the project. There is no charge for entry (at the time of writing). There are no refreshments so take water! Apologies for the lack of photographs but there are good ones on the website.
