The museum curator was a pure delight as she brought to life a range of thoroughly researched stories about pioneers past and present and the town's development. It was clear she cared deeply about telling the stories with honesty and empathy for the local community. As a result, we came away from this visit full of information and enthusiasm for Hinton, it's past and it's future. We look forward to following her progress with future museum developments and would readily return in future to see them for ourselves.

Spent around 5 hours in the museum, it’s vast (especially level 3) and covers a wide variety of subjects including local history, art, First Nation and international exhibits. The museum is spread across 3 floors and there are many exhibits so be prepared for a long visit if you want to see everything. Shop is well appointed and there are coffee shops and restaurants close by. There is also a school class room on site which was nice to see as the children were clearly enjoying their work. Learnt a heap of stuff about Canada that I didn’t know before and it supplemented the knowledge we’d got from the national heritage museum which we’d visited the day before. If you have the time, then it’s well worth a visit.

Our gallery spaces include two 30,000 square foot history halls chronicling millions of years of Alberta's natural and cultural history; a 12,000 square foot feature gallery that will play host to touring exhibits from around the world; A 7,000 square foot Children's Gallery where hands-on play is found in every corner; and a 3,000 square foot Bug Gallery where visitors can have close encounters with live invertebrates. Feed your curiosity.

The RAM has interesting exhibits including dinosaurs, wildlife, bugs, geology, gems, military history, and Alberta history. But where they really shine is indigenous history. They have a large collection of Cree, Blackfoot, Dene, and Metis artifacts, including totem poles, tipis, headdresses, arrowheads, beadwork, and artwork. The exhibits make history come to life and show how people lived here for thousands of years.

As a hub for tourism, Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village is home to the visitor information centre, Gift Shop, and a Western Canadian frontier village with 24 heritage cabins and two museum buildings filled with intriguing artifacts. The Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village was established in 1966, and was intended to preserve the area's vibrant pioneer heritage. Over the years, the efforts of countless volunteers and employees has seen the museum grow to include 26 buildings and 24,000+ artifacts. Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village is an outdoor heritage facility. Visitors are able to walk directly into any of the historic buildings, and view the artifacts, which are displayed openly. The open concept and self guided museum means you also free to wander through six acres of beautiful gardens, including a pond and waterfall (summer) and large community garden area. Each of the buildings in the Village is authentic, restored, and furnished with period furniture. Artifacts and everyday tools used by the owners and inhabitants of that time, are displayed in each building. The history is not roped off or preserved behind glass.

I have lived in Pincher Creek for 42 years and it wasn't until this August that my Grandson and I took the time to visit each and every display. It was so worth every minute of the 3 hours that we spent there. The Museum Staff and Volunteers have done a wonderful job depicting the history of our area and town. So interesting and fun. Highly recommend to all visitors and towns people.
