Great local artwork, books and history! Stopped by here while on a day trip with a friend. We both left with armloads of stuff! Friendly staff, tons of local artists represented here and if you take the time to browse some of the books, there is loads of cultural and regional history. Everything is very reasonably priced, from the quilts to the pottery and books. There are also pottery, painting and other classes that you can take when available on site. If you're in the area, don't miss taking a few minutes (or an hour) to support the locals, and whatever you do, don't leave without a Priester's Pecan Pie!

This is a very peaceful, serene, and clean memorial dedicated to all branches of the US Armed Services. The main memorial consists of individual monuments to the great wars from WW1 through the Gulf Wars, with historic timelines throughout, while the pathways behind consist of bricks and benches dedicated to individual soldiers, platoons, and groups who served. The American flag can be seen for miles as you enter Huntsville, and the accompanying flags are always stately flown alongside just a tad lower. What a great place to spend a lunch hour, or a great stop along the way to downtown Huntsville's other tourist attractions!

If I had know how much there was to see I would have been there when it opened. There is so much to see, first the USS ALABAMA, there are 3 different self guided tours of the ship taking you from the engine room to almost the top of the ship, you do need to be good on stairs as some are steep, or you can just wonder about. Then there is the Submarine, then there are the plane's, then there are the vehicles and lastly the monuments. To get the best out of your visit allow 5 hour's a day would be better.

This was our second visit to the Carnival Museum. Our tour guide today was L. Craig Roberts, author of "Mardi Gras in Mobile", an interesting history of Mobile's Mardi Gras culture. Mr. Roberts was slightly pretentious, knowledgeable and witty, providing stories of the Carnival history in addition to information about the exhibits. The museum's exhibits are incredibly interesting, especially the Queen's dresses, trains and regalia, which were exquisite. On the flip side, being from a northern state, I still just don't get the carnival culture, but I'ill probably visit again in the future.

I’m one of those people that likes to visit cemeteries as I feel it can give you an interesting historical perspective of the local area. At this location there is also a national cemetery with a good number of Confederate soldiers. As you walk about you’ll notice a good number of unique headstones, many dating back from the mid to late 1800’s. There is evidence the smallpox or perhaps consumption epidemic which took place in the 1880’s. Definitely worth a visit.

This was two hours of heaven walking the shaded trails, enjoying the sights and varieties of so many plants with a real emphasis on rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias. Most of these were not in bloom, but still delightful. There were a few sculptures, antique columns and a koi pond to add to the variety. The staff was friendly and incredibly helpful. Even the gift shop was unique and featured items by local artists.
