The capital city of South Australia is simply enchanting, a treasure trove of shopping, fine arts, gastronomy and outdoor activity. Adelaide is the heart of the world's opal industry, selling gorgeous stones from South Australian mines. Be sure to hike the aptly named Mt. Lofty Ranges and catch a wave off the Fleurieu Peninsula. It is, of course, my opinion that the ACM is the best, as we have been going there each week for 30 years. There is a wide variety of fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, small goods, great pasta, breads, fabulous cheese, vegan and vegetarian foods, herbs and spices, great coffee and snacks. Lucia's cafe serves coffee and cakes but specialises in big breakfasts and Italian food for lunches The market backs onto China Town with its specialty shops and eateries. Regular market tours are available by contacting the administration, there tours are conducted by expert guides and allow tastings of produce. Overseas visitors should put it on their agenda. A visit to the market is no cost unless you wish to buy some of the goodies.

This has a great display of bowls, mugs, and everyday items from local artists. Many very beautiful handcrafted items. Priced quite reasonably (you could pay as much for a high-end factory version). Great place to buy local gifts for visiting friends overseas,

Another great market, with a great atmosphere and a huge range of stalls selling a range of local produce from farmers and growers. The market was within a short walking distance of our self-catering accommodation. And what a good decision it was to go there! Stalls selling dairy products, meats, fresh fruit/veg/salads, wine, cheeses, and much, much more. We bought meat and salads for two evening dinners, all reasonably priced and great quality. Beautiful produce. So glad we visited the market. Very highly recommend a visit. Local people don't know how lucky they are to have such a great Farmer's Market. Or perhaps they do!!

My wife and I find ourselves in the city. There was some thought about visiting the Art Gallery, but the Arcade won out! First an excellent coffee and cake at the Coffee Spot, and then a browse up and down the Arcade. We enjoyed chatting to the managers of the Games Shop with its vast range of games, puzzles and jigsaws. We then resisted the urge to visit Haigh’s Chocolates, having over-indulged at Christmas. The Button Shop is an amazing experience, and there is a very interesting Arts Gallery around in Gay’s Arcade. It is worth stopping to view the (covered) steps down to the old tearooms beneath the main arcade, and then a stop at the Card Shop with its helpful owner and extensive range of gift cards. We found this a wonderful way to spend an hour in the city!

The Parade Norwood is a great destination for food, shopping, movies and various festivals/ activities that are held held on parts of the parade during the year when sections of the road are closed off to cars. There are 4 pubs, at least 5 cafes, Hoyts cinema, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Italian & Pizza, food options - pretty much anything that your hunger desires. Rundle Mall

Taking a slow walk through Rundle Mall is worth the time because there is lots to see. Shopping stores, tourist stores, eating places, side street malls, plus numerous street performers & interactive art displays (large, life-size walk-through doll house when we visited). Interesting and fun.
