Lovely central rooms

Just visited over the bank holiday. The rooms are lovely and central to all amenities. Nicole sent us a message to say when the room was ready and the little extra touches bottled water tea coffee and biscuits were lovely. I will definitely stay again when in Whitby.

Me and my partner stayed here last weekend for an evening as we were attending a wedding at sandburn hall near bye. The B&B itself was clean and homely. The room was large, spacious and clean. The owners couldn’t do enough for us, even taking us and bringing us back from the wedding venue!! Breakfast was also amazing! We will 100% be returning! Thank you for a lovely stay! PS love all your pets!!

Wrea Head Country Cottages

Lovely Sea View Cottage

Reviewed By elsiekate

We’ve just got back from a lovely weekend away at Wrea Head Country Cottages. It was a last minute booking and we couldn’t be happier with our decision to stay there. We stayed in Sea View, which has fab views out to the sea and castle (when the Yorkshire weather cooperates). The location of the cottages is perfect being close to Scarborough and local amenities, including pubs and takeaways, and yet in beautiful quiet rural countryside. There is enough outside space to have fun and freedom for the kids, with play equipment and fields, and the swimming pool and hot tub shared by the 9 cottages is great. Currently booked in 1 hour 30 minute slots for each cottage so you get the pool to yourselves. As it was a quiet January weekend host Lauren also let us know that we could have longer in the pool and book additional slots as they weren’t full, which was really appreciated and the pool was a highlight for the kids. The cottage itself was great, modern and well equipped, with an additional TV in one of the bedrooms so ideal for families. The Wi-Fi was good enough to keep two tweens happy and fine for streaming on the TV. Thanks for a fab weekend. We’ll definitely be back!

Will never go there again

Reviewed By Trip584960

I booked for one night, sent a message with my arrival time, pointing out that I would be late because of road closures. Got a message saying that check-in is till 10 pm. Despite the delays caused by road closures, I managed to arrive before 10 pm. A nice gentleman helped me check in. The room was basic but warm enough and after 6 hours on the road, I was too tired. I went to bed and woke up early the next morning. I went to the town, did a couple of things and came back at 10:15 planning to take a shower and change my clothes and leave at check out time at 11 am. To my horror, I was met by a lady who told me that they have another guest coming so she packed my things and put my luggage in the living area and cleaned the room. I could not believe what I am hearing. I looked at my watch it was 10:20. I was not in the mood for an argument so I decided to forget about it and not let this spoil my day. I went to the living area made myself a coffee and sat trying to relax. At 10:45 the same lady walks into the living area to tell me that I can only stay for 15 minutes and I have to leave at 11. I could not let the situation pass, this was too much. I told the lady that I paid till 11 to be in my room not in the living area and that she had no right of entering my room and packing my luggage. To my horror, her excuse is that the other guest is arriving and she needs to clean the room. I told her that this is his problem. The check-in time is 2 pm, there is plenty of time to clean the room from 11 till 2 pm. If the other guest arrives early then he has to wait. She still repeated the same excuse telling me the other guest is arriving early. I asked her what if the guest arrives at 4 am would she have thrown me out of bed !!!! She just would not understand what I am saying. She just kept saying she had to clean the room. She had no clue about how to handle guests or talk to them. She offered no apologies or any attempts to be at least courteous. I have been travelling and staying in many places in many countries, I have never met anyone who has such a lack of manners in any hospitality establishments I have visited. This is a place I would not be in again or recommend. They should not be in the hospitality business at all. Terrible experience.

Avoid at all costs!

Reviewed By S3984OCabigailw

This is by far one of the worst, albeit most expensive hotels I have ever had the displeasure of staying in. The heating in the room was broken (apparently a common issue according to the service engineer) and was not fixed during our stay instead we was given a portable heater to use from reception in an attempt to heat up the whole room, what a joke! In addition to this the hot tub was also broken (again we were told this apparently happens a lot) and we was completely unable to use it throughout our stay which was the main reason we booked! The staff couldn’t care less about any of this and just fed us with excuses. I found the whole customer service absolutely disgusting, especially when we had paid so much extra for a room with a hot tub! The rooms are filthy especially the bathrooms, they are just COVERED in mould but this was the least of our problems. They rooms are also very poorly constructed and so you can hear virtually every word spoken from the neighbouring rooms making it hard to sleep and privacy is just non existent. We was adjacent to a family with a baby so had little to no sleep. This is just poor for a “luxury” hotel, when you pay so much to go away for the night and not get a wink of sleep! Following all of the above we complained throughout our stay and tried to resolve the issues but as mentioned the customer service is disgusting as the staff are beyond unhelpful once they have already taken your money. We had checked in at 2pm and wasn’t offered another room until 7:30pm despite CONSTANT complaints. As we declined the room with it being so late on and we just wanted to settle down by this point as we was leaving in the morning they then used this as an excuse to only offer us a pitiful partial refund of £100 (not even in line with one of their other rooms that doesn’t have a hot tub never mind a room with heating that works!). Such a horrible experience for a £270 room for one night, I’ve never felt as robbed. We didn’t think we was asking for much to expect it to be what we paid for and simply up to standard but apparently so with such major issues and how the hotel dealt with the whole situation! I honestly wouldn’t be paid to stay here again.

Great Location and Space, needs a bit more attention to detail

Reviewed By CMcCabe2014

Just returned from a lovely family holiday at the Aldwych cottage part of The Copper Horse cottages. The space is ideal, suited us well. Great to have smart tvs in all the rooms, all the appliances and extra equipment you'd need. However, we did feel that the cleanliness of the property was lacking. The living room floor needed hoovered as soon as we arrived, cobwebs in the window frames and by the kitchen door, the chrome towel rails in the bathrooms were dusty, water marks on the glass shelves and the shower screen didn't appear to have been cleaned. This may not seem much to some but we expected a better standard especially with covid. A few other things to mention, all the wallpaper was coming away from the wall in the living room, we couldn't get the heating to work (not that it was cold, but to dry clothes after getting caught in a downpour), downstairs toilet seat wasn't fitted correctly, so you sat on the pan, and there was no hook for the retractable washing line. The live music from the Mayfield Pub went on til after 11.30pm on Friday night, extremely loud so worth considering if you've small children. This may seem picky and most of these could be easily sorted with a bit more attention to detail. Overall an ideal location and a great property, just lacking in attention to detail that would make it a true 5 star property.

Primrose Cottage Getaway for Six

Reviewed By Jill J

We love the time between Christmas & New Year, and like to get away from it all with our family. We had originally booked the same week in 2020 but Covid meant it was not to be. Then we heard the Grainary had changed hands, but the booking was carried forward. We arrived in the fog & dark and all looked very gloomy, but we found a chap who showed us where to go, and once we were inside the holiday began. A very spacious, warm & comfortable cottage. Home from home induction hob, though not a lot of worktop space for preparing meals for 6, etc. The welcome pack of milk, tea, coffee and biscuits was very much appreciated. Our granddaughters shared the downstairs twin bedded room, and loved the wet room, and being in charge of 'downstairs' while we adults were in bed. The tea room is currently closed, and lots of refurbishment is taking place around the farmyard. Very muddy as you would expect this time of year, with a week of constant rain too. Could have done with the wheelie bins a bit closer to the cottages. Lovely to see the animals, sheep, goats and donkeys. A lovely touch was Briony bringing us Prosecco & wishing us happy new year on the evening of 31st Dec. If only we could have stayed up later than 10pm! All that fresh air just does you in. Only downside is that the local pubs are a car journey away; and we wish we'd bought our wellies to walk across the farmyard!
