Very Warm Welcome, Impressive Facility

The architecture of the hotel is impressive. You feel like you're in a different time. The staff is very friendly. The rooms are large, many rooms face the garden. The price level for overnight stays is very high. You pay much more for a sea view room. The food in the hotel is very good and inexpensive. The hotel is quiet and very centrally located. Great view (lighthouse!). Unfortunately the beach was closed due to the flooding in the area of Durban a month ago. The curry dishes are highly recommended.

Reviewed By JoliH15An elegant and stylish hotel surrounded by vibrant and casual restaurants. Umhlanga is top modern, has a huge mall in just 5min drive. Directly on the sea with a kilometre-long sandy beach. Just few kilometers up north from Durban. Close to the International Airport. We extended our stay by a few days.

Reviewed By N3AviationThe location is good within the Gateway precinct, which is convenient. Rooms are standard for the type of hotel. When fully occupied during high season it can be quite noisy. Staff and service are average. Nothing above the minimum one would expect.

While the rooms here are typical Holiday Inn Express standard, the spacious public areas, the great staff and, not least, the Butcher Block restaurant right next door set it apart. Keep up the good work and we will return time & again.

Reviewed By DianeN1031Lamp shade broken. Bathroom door loose. Limited crockery. Terrible housekeeping. Only one tiny bottle of body wash and 1 small soap for 7 days. Room was not cleaned properly. Linen could have been changed after two days as I had one child and one baby. Although I requested they did not change. I swept the room and left the dirt under the sweeper in the corner, the next day it was not cleaned. Left there until I cleaned it. The manner in which the bed was dressed seemed like a child did it. I booked room 229 so that my family could spend time with us. It was an absolutely cold room and the air conditioner was not working so couldn’t warm the room. The main bed was too hard and was different to sleep on. Did not enjoy either. The lounge and pools were lovely.

No Refund as promised
Reviewed By HassanhamidI had a partial stay at this hotel around mid April during the KZN flooding. We were told that there was a problem with water at the hotel at 12pm. We made it clear to the front desk that we are staying at the hotel because we were without water at home. We were promised that water will be restored shortly. After many a promise it would return we were told at 5pm there isno water. THE HOTEL MISLEAD THEIR GUESTS. WE proceeded to check out and promised a full refund within 10 day i requested a refund receipt and non was provided. To date I have received no correspondence nor a refund. Do not trust this hotel.

Reviewed By logann176Old and dirty hotel. Housekeeping only makes the beds and changes the towels, they don't clean the rooms or bathrooms. They have security in the day but none at night so you are at risk in this crime infested city. It's probably the worst hotel in the Sun International group.
