The best available Lodges to stay near Gambia

May 3, 2023 Karren Gelb

This small country in western Africa has become more popular recently as a beach destination for European travelers. It’s a relatively short flight, there’s no time difference, and lodging is generally very affordable. River Island National Park in Banjul is fantastic for watching wildlife (especially the native baboons).

AbCa's Creek Lodge

In 2014 AbCa's Creek Lodge was built in a beautiful area in the inlands of the Gambia. The lodge is a nice place to stay for tourists who would like to experience the traditional way of living and also see the amazing nature of the inlands. During your visit you can stay the night and take part of different activities and excursions. It is also possible to visit us without staying the night.

Lovely place to retreat to

Reviewed By glshaw81

Visited as a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 children) as part of an organised tour. They gave us 2 rooms next to each other which worked great. Was a great location and good food. A highlight was cycling on their bikes in the evening 1 though you need to have kids who are confident cycling the different bikes available! They also did various boat trips.

One day hopefully in the not too distant future we will be able to visit & experience their hospitality, until then we send our warmest regards.

Nemasu Eco-lodge

One of the ONLY eco-lodges directly on the beach, in Gambia. The ONLY eco-lodge you can watch the sunset over the Atlantic from your room or in the restaurant. Private, surrounded by forest, excellent food & drinks, clean, comfortable & artistic. Read our reviews! Swim, go bird watching, drumming & explore African life in a super-safe location on the 'smiling coast' of Gambia. Sleep to the sound of the surf. Part of your payment goes directly to community assistance & saving local sea turtles. Even more reason to book!

Fantastic place!

This was our second visit to Nemasu, and hopefully not our last. This place is so relaxed. The food in the restaurant is very good and the drinks are cold (expect ofcourse for the lovely mint and lemongrass tea)! The beach is very nice and quiet: no bumsters. During our stay we cycled to the reptile farm which is only 3 km from Nemasu. We also did the cooking class with Ayse on a compound in the village. Great experience! She does some great massages as well. Again we stayed in one of the roundhouses (very nice, clean and quite spacious), but the new houses with beachview also looked like great accommodation. The biggest plus of Nemasu was again the staff! They are so friendly, helpful and lots of fun!

Basic lodge with great service and tranquil environment

Reviewed By beachbummer75

We stayed here for 2 nights Facilities were basic so one has to adjust expectations The shower head didn’t work but they provided bucket. Water supply and electricity were intermittent but we were ok given this place is quite remote and we understand the challenges in getting such supplies here and the price charged for the 2 days stay here. There is lots to explore for the adventurous eg kayak, we had our own stand up paddle boards and fat bicycles Else there’s also kayak for rental, fishing, boat rides, village visits. Food was good - we chose fish, oysters for the 2 day stay. It was nice sitting in front of room admiring sunset Points to consider 1. Bring your own wines /alcohol , nuts for aperitif, fruits as they have almost none or v limited supplies. 2. Ample bug spray - being in midst of mangroves meant there were abundant bugs - I had a lot of bites but that’s part of being among nature, nothing to do with the lodge

I strongly recommend anyone who is looking for a comfortable, cosy, local and friendly accommodation to stay at Sarawally Guesthouse! I was living here for a week and I was fully satisfied with every aspect of my stay. My room was cleaned everything. Plenty clean towels. Quiet neighborhood. Great location, located right beside the big Kairaba Avenue, from where u can go pretty much everywhere. It's a 20 min walk to the Fajara beach as well. 5 min walk to ATM, restaurant, bars and supermarket. Staff was VERY friendly, helpful and flexible. I strongly recommend this place ??

Feel Free Lodge

Feel Free Lodge is an eco friendly lodge situated on the beach. It has 5 en suite rooms. The bar and restaurant look towards the sea and there are numerous outdoor seating and dining areas. The cry of the fish eagle and the gentle lapping of the waves provide the perfect soundtrack to a sandy beach which is unspoiled, as nature intended, and disappears to the horizon in both directions.

Not what we expected

Reviewed By judymog

We arrived after an interesting crossing on the ferry, jeep ride, boat over the river but then a long walk on hot sand to reach the lodges. It was at least 33 degrees and we weren't warned about such a long walk. I am 72 and it really took it out of me. We arrived at the lodge. Our accommodation was expected to be basic but we didn't expect unkempt. There was no lid on the cistern of the toilet, water was a cold trickle from a corroded tap and shower, only one towel and no toilet paper. One of the chair outside was broken. For dinner we were given fish and chips. very dry and tasteless. we thought we might get fruit for pudding but that was it. There were no activities offered as advertised, eg. fishing, donkey ride to village etc. This place was such a disappointment.

Authentisches Afrika
