Very enjoyable stay

Reviewed By LowenGirl

We stayed here for two nights. One before our trip to Santo Antao and one on our return. Isabel, the proprietor, obviously takes a great deal of pride in her hotel, as do her staff, and rightly so. The rooms are lovely and such a nice gesture to have the beds turned down each evening. Breakfast was delicious, we had a packed breakfast on the first day as we were getting the early ferry and a beautifully prepared buffet breakfast on our last day. Sound proofing is a small issue; we could hear people moving around and doors opening and shutting and outside noise can be intrusive. However it is an old building right in town so neither of these things can be easily remedied and didn't detract from our enjoyment. We hope to stay again and see more of Sao Vicente.

Great stay for a good price

Luckily Fernanda, the host, was so nice to let us in in the middle of the night. She was our hero. She also helped us with other things like renting a car. Besides that she shows us the city. The house was very clean with enough equipment (to make for example coffee) and it´s located good. It´s close to supermarket, bank, etc. We had a good stay and we highly recomend it!

So great but a big inconvenience

Reviewed By 8Ignacio8

We stayed two nights. The place is located in a quiet safe area, a bit far from the city centre by walk (you need to take a taxi). The B&B was clean, so beautiful, tidy, the breakfast was an aweasome buffet and the owners are super kind and friendly! They really help us to decide where to go around the island. However, there was quite a big problem that makes us feel a bit uncomfortable: shower water was cold and there was something broken that allows water to spread out in the bathroom while we were having shower. We reported this issue but unfortunately they didn't do anything or at least gave any feedback or alternative. On the other hand we left really early for the airport and they let us some breakfeast, that was a really good point. It would be such a great accommodation, wasn't it for the issue with the shower.

EXCEEDINGLY HORRIBLE

Reviewed By LakeDistrictTruth

On entering the property it was dark dingy, smelly and everything you touched was damp and grimey. The cooking, eating utensils had to be washed before use. The photos must of been taken when new for they did not represent the property I found. Most of the facilities that were on offer when I booked could not be found on arrival. Needless to say we only stayed 40 hours. Shower drain blocked causing water to flood the floor, one toilet had no seat and unable to flush, no lights in the hallway, no lights on access stair case so we had to grope up four flights of stairs in total darkness. We had power failures with no emergency lighting. I have seen more acceptable pig sty's. Looking back I wonder if my insurance would have covered this property with no lights, sockets hanging off and junction boxes with no cover. I am unable to understand why Tripadvisoe and Homeaway allow the owner of the property to molest their web-sites with such a horrible property. Having stayed and booked property over the years this is the worst property I have ever visited. I am not a fantasy writer. These are the true facts about this property. I am awaiting a refund with little hope of ever recieving

Really essential room but good price

Budget hotel in excellent position (in front of the beach). It serves a good and abundant breakfast on the "roof terrace". The biggest problem is the lackness of hot water: there are boilers where you could warm up the water for your shower. Bed is comfortable and room is clean. A quite good option if you don't want to spend a lot.

Farinha de Pau Eco B&B

We work with the Taste and Sustainable Tourism. It's a kind of tourism that is fleeing from mass tourism to something more original and authentic. The feelings, sensations, smell, smiles are the goods that we like to offer to our guests. Welcome! FARINHA DE PAU - TASTE and TRADITIONAL TOURISM FARINHA DE PAU is a guesthouse specialized in providing a relaxing place where to stay with all the traditional feelings of Sao Nicolau Island in Cape Verde. Farinha de Pau has special offers for adventurous tourists to hike, mountain bike, dive, kite and surf. We invite you and your family to come experience the wealth of beauties and endless opportunities that Sao Nicolau has to offer. We have a very good map with the best hike tracks on the island, and we give all support about it. Our philosophy is ecologically minded and we use only locally hand made crafts and decorations for our home. It's 28 € per person at least 2 nights, with breakfast! Independent if is single or group. We recommend a complete meal service with Lunch and Dinner. All food is from the island and produced without chemicals. Our guest can access all house, specially in the garden, where we have a nice chillout place. In our house we like to offer a personal and friendly service for our guest. Our neighborhood is calm and friendly, with family houses around. Normally we sleep with the window opened during the night because it's so safe. We are close the sea and some beaches, and you can go walking to there. The transport in Sao Nicolau is limited. Is normal to wait a lot for a transport to go or come back from the hike. Because this, we have a airport transfer (30€ - 45 km) and hike transfer. We put the people on the beginning of the way, and we combine with the group to meet with them, on the end of the hike, and bring them. The value of the services depends on the distance to drive. We have some services here like lunch, dinner, laundry and day tour. Here in the house we try to use only natural food, direct from the garden or fresh fish. Of course sometimes we need to use rice or pasta, and these products come from outside. But we don't use Knorr or other chemicals to give flavor, nor too much oil or salt, it's all very natural and healthy. Lunch: 10 € Dinner: 12 € The day tour is a tour on the west shore of the island, all day long. We like to stop on the places and enjoy it. Not only stop for photo and go. We can organise tour for other island spots too. Day tour - English guide, car, fuel, water : 80 € (this value is divided by the group)

Fantastic place for adventurers

Reviewed By Tetonadam1

My wife and I spent a week with Sergio and his family at his Farinha de Pau this past November and absolutely loved it! First of all, Sao Nicolau is the least touristy and developed islands of the archipelago. This makes it perfect for more adventurous travelers like us. Sergio and his wife Simone have put a lot of work into creating a permaculture style accommodation in a remote place. Although not luxurious, it is comfortable, sustainable, and charming. The location is great. You can do many of the world class hikes right from your room, and Sergio is a fountain of information having lived there for years. We spent two weeks on three different islands (Santo Antao, São Vicente, São Nicolau) and would have to say great hands down the food was better than anywhere else. His wife Simone is a trained chef and provided healthy, varied and delicious meals each day. However, one of our favorite parts about our stay was they made us feel like family not just guests. This includes their adorable dog “Skooby” who accompanied my wife on hikes in the mountains, and joined us on a trip to the beach. Sergios genuine hospitality, sense of humor and adventure made our stay unique and fun! Highly recommended for the adventurous!

Guest House Soncent

Je déconseille de choisir cette Guesthouse

Reviewed By Voyagertravel
