Reviewed By estrangerSan Carlos and La Vaca Tranquila are an absolute refuge of peace, tranquility, and authenticity on the edges of slightly dumpy Cafayate. The property owners live on site, which means the maintenance and feel of the entire site is top notch. The surrounding areas make you feel like you're on a working farm, and the town of San Carlos is possibly the most authentic and charming town we came across in our long journey across the Northwest of Argentina. Breakfast excellent, and the pool a real treat. San Carlos lacks one thing: a passable restaurant. If someone opened a good restaurant in San Carlos, and you didn't have to take the unpredictable Ruta 40 to Cafayate for dinner every night, this place would be a dream. Either self-cater if you stay here (there are facilities to do so) or make sure you have a designated driver for the 30-min trip back. Would be great if the property could arrange a shared taxi service to and from the property at dinnertime (say, leaving at 8:30pm, returning at 11pm) that guests could join.

Reviewed By johannesb231Okay the room was huge, the bed slept very well and the bathroom was all it should be. Besides that all was very clean. The garden is beautifull and the swimingpool is lovely. The breakfast ohhhh that bread! Breakfast was great as well. But most of all the people who run it! They realy are the BEST.

Good value hotel with great service
Reviewed By Maureen SWe were on a small group tour from Cachi to Cafayate when we were stopped at a flooded river crossing before arriving at our destination of Cafayate. Our guide managed to book us all into Hotel Maria around 10.30 at night. The owner went out of his way to provide a ground floor room for us and rooms for the remainder of our group. We asked him for hot drinks and he managed to provide them as well. People who were stranded, were arriving at the hotel all the time and he managed to accommodate everyone with a smile. After a very comfortable night, we were provided with a very basic breakfast and then we were on our way. Our thanks to the owner who provided us all with last minute accommodation.
