Sustainable Hotel with super friendly and motivated staff
Reviewed By V8903ODfranknI am writing this review as a German traveler, traveling in beginning of June 2022, after the borders were opened recently. Therefore, it is understandable, that not everything works perfectly yet. Zoe's Paradise is really a paradise. It is run by a Swiss/Indonesian couple. I was very warm welcomed and was offered a free upgrade to a room with balcony. I had a very good time there, with all staff being extremely friendly and helpful, e.g., when checking possible ways to get to Medan from Parapat (Spoiler: it's not very easy at the Moment). The hotel is clean, the rooms good. However, my bathroom was comparably small. But okay. The pool and its facilities are also nice and clean, with two slides. The hotel aims for sustainability, which I can fully support. You see this e.g. by the absence of AC and the shampoo dispenser instead of little one-time bottles. Very nice. When I left, I was given an impressive local present. That was really cool and again underlines the familiarity in this hotel. In general the hotel is very good equipped with things I often miss in a 4* hotel, e.g. slippers, a socket extension, pool towels ready, extra pillows.... Once again, thank you very much for this great stay with you. Hope to see you soon again. In summary: + Very friendly and helpful staff + It's a very nice feeling, that all staff know your name + Spacious room, but small bathroom + Very nice pool area with two slides and stuff for kids to play. + Western standard in several areas (e.g. socket extension cord... Jap, the small things make the stay there more comfortable) + Good breakfast, with lots of variety in fruits. But providing more butter and jam/honey would be good. + Stable WiFi, good water pressure and overall well organized - there was quite a lot of rubbish (water bottle etc.) and plants in the water in front of the hotel. This surely not comes from the hotel, but cleaning it would be better and makes a better feeling when starting to swim. - lunch/dinner food, as there is no chef currently. So there is only nasi goreng and mie goreng available. However, I was told that they are currently hiring a chef. - laundry service, it returned half of my clothes still being dirty. The management excused a lot for this issue and will talk to their laundry providers to improve. >>>>> In summary summary: I can highly recommend staying there and hope that with more tourist coming, some shortcomings are removed automatically. If I travel to Lake Toba again, I will definitely stay at Zoe's again, as it was a very open and friendly stay.

Reviewed By iisechew?Lake Toba, Indonesia For ONLY Rm 100 one-way ( KL - Lake Toba) and Rm 50/night in Romlan Guesthouse, Lake Toba was perhaps one of the most memorable and AFFORDABLE holidays I've shared with Michelle. ?Picture swimming in an enchanting volcanic blue lake that spans the horizon, with mountainous backdrops and blue skies, feasting on produce from rich volcanic soil and an abundance of the freshest fish, sleeping without the need of air-conditioning due to the cool temperatures.. That's Lake Toba in a nutshell.. The perfect holiday, with the best of culinary delights and fruit juices all from this incredibly rich and fertile land.. ?We spent our days just frolicking in the cool waters, gliding on the lake with our kayaks (it was FREE), having a gastronomic adventure that spanned from authentic German pastries to incredible Indonesian flavours. Apparently, the owner of Romlan's Guesthouse is a German, thus explaining the amazing German cuisine whipped up by the local chefs. The Fish 'Tombur' with their signature Spicy Batak Sauce was a KILLER. I have not found a better tasting spicy sauce than that (this dish takes 3 hours to prepare). ?Arriving to our destination was relatively easy. On our flight, we were already able to view the entirety of Lake Toba from above; it was breath-taking. A three hour drive from the airport would bring you the jetties, in which a ferry will take you DIRECTLY to your appointed hotel, all in the middle of the lake at an island called Samosir Island. It is for certain that I will return to this magical retreat. It's the ideal picture of the perfect retreat.

Tuk-Tuk Timbul, which means "Arising Peninsula", is located at the shore line of Lake Toba between the well known peninsula "Tuk Tuk Siadong" and the village of Ambarita. We, the family Siallagan, started to build up this place in the seventies as it was still just a bare rock in the lake making it suitable for nice bungalows. Over the years it has become what it is now - a little paradise for those who like it quiet, a little bit hidden and familial rather than busy and fancy. Generally all of our bungalows are basic, suitable for guests that are looking for non-expensive accommodation rather than for pricy international standard hotels. This is being reflected in our room rates. Our luxury is our great natural spot, hidden and quiet, where you won't find disturbing boat traffic or even road noises.
Tranquil guest house by the lake
Reviewed By patricko427We stayed in the traditional bungalow which has Great Lake views, and is a nice place to chill out. The lodge is a short scooter ride from the centre of town which means that it is very quiet and secluded, but only 5 minutes from restaurants and cafes. The scooters they rent are in good condition, and the roads are all very good and easy to ride. They also helpfully arrived for ferry pick up from the hotel on the last day, and picked us up from the ferry which made life very easy!

Our lakeside hotel is located in an Eco-tourism zone of Tuktuk, Sumatera Utara, Indonesia, a perfect base to explore and discover the wonder and beauty of toba lake. Our hotel is located at the most scenic place in Tuktuk. Most of our guests said they have the best sleep at our place because of our prime location, far from the busy city life, and more like a family get-away and get-together place.. Our tuktuk location is famous for Fishing, Sunbathing, BBQ, Gathering, Picnic on a mat activities under the trees and gazebo. Ideal for holiday and relaxation. Lake Toba will make any stay comfortable and memorable. Our location is also within 1 minute walking distance to bike/motorbike rental if you would love to enjoy biking around the Tuktuk peninsula or even around the Samosir Island. There are local restaurants (Pizza, etc) and cafe around our place so you can have the most enjoyable vacation. Meeting room for 50 people is also available.
Extremely disappointing stay
Reviewed By British-Male12I visited beautiful Lake Toba and decided to stay at this hotel as it is right by the lake, however there were numerous issues with my visit as follows: - No WiFi in my room for the first two days of my visit - No hot water from the bathroom tap - Very limited hot water from the shower - Frosted glass above the toilet which didn't provide adequate privacy - Curtains that didn't cover the width of the window - Room not cleaned by staff once during my entire stay - Extremely loud karaoke with full sound system in the hotel grounds set up by other guests that finished at 4am and started again at 8am!!! Totally ruined my last night there. Based on the above, I will not be staying again unfortunately.

Reviewed By J3ffngIt's a nice hotel, clean and comfortable and the view of the lake is spectacular. Perhaps it was low season as we seem to be the only group there that time, hence pool water filtration was not in operation.

Beautiful view over the lake and mountains and nice little “pier” for bathing and sunbathing:) We missed a mosquito net but rooms are pretty mosquito proof. The cocks in the neighbourhood make sure you’re up early;)
